Well… it’s official.

They’re calling this the strongest El Niño on record, with impacts expected to ramp up by November and December.

So what do you think this winter has in store for us? Are we headed for another wild season like 2022–2023 heavy rain, huge snow totals, and storm after storm or will all the hype end with a dud?

Ever filled a 35-gallon trash bag with human 💩? Yeah… neither should we have to. This is what our volunteers are dealing with while cleaning up after irresponsible campers along the Kern River.

Our public lands are not your toilet, and they’re not your trash can. If you pack it in, pack it out, and dispose of human waste properly. Do better. Not just for yourself, but for the wildlife, the people who come after you, and this beautiful river we all love and work so hard to protect.

Respect the river. Respect the land. Leave no trace.

11 Years and Still Going Strong! 💪

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for the 11th Annual Great Kern River Cleanup! We had an incredible turnout of volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and helped keep the Kern River and our public lands clean and beautiful. We even had a very special volunteer this year, Patches the Llama! 🦙

Events like this are only possible because of the amazing people, businesses, organizations, and community partners who step up to support our mission.

Our final whitewater cleanup of the season is officially in the books!

We tackled the post Labor Day trash and, unfortunately, removed a record amount of 💩 from one campground. Not exactly the kind of record we were hoping to break, but it’s all part of protecting the places we love.

A huge thank you to the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Whitewater Voyages, Sierra South, and Momentum Expeditions for stepping up and working alongside us.

Keeping the Kern River clean takes a community, and we’re grateful for every partner, volunteer, and supporter who helps make this work possible.

Protect the Kern. Pack it in. Pack it out. Leave it better than you found it.

It’s a Dolly Parton kind of river day 🩷

Yesterday, the University of Redlands outdoor program joined us on the Kern River for a hands on service project!

The group helped dismantle illegal campfire rings along the river corridor and picked up trash along the riverbanks, helping keep our riverside campgrounds cleaner, safer, and more fire safe for everyone. A huge thank you to the students for giving back and helping care for the Kern River!
