House Bill 400 is another example of Delaware government balancing its budget on the backs of businesses.

At a time when small businesses are struggling with rising costs for labor, insurance, rent, utilities, inventory, and compliance requirements, lawmakers have chosen to increase additional fees and taxes administered by the Secretary of State. Every dollar taken through higher filing fees and annual taxes is a dollar that cannot be used to hire employees, expand operations, invest in equipment, or serve customers.

Delaware's leaders frequently claim the state is business-friendly, but actions speak louder than words. Increasing taxes and fees on businesses sends a clear message that state government views business owners as a revenue source rather than as partners in economic growth. Small businesses create jobs, support local communities, and drive the economy. Raising the cost of doing business moves Delaware in the wrong direction.
