Well friends... I think it's finally time to tell you a story. πΉ
Its been an interesting few weeks... and I'm not even kitten you!
Two Saturdays ago after work, I stopped at the Mt. Victory drive-thru. The guy working there had a box of kittens and was trying to find them homes. Like most small towns right now, our area is absolutely overflowing with cats and kittens. It's honestly heartbreaking.
He said, "Can I interest you in a kitten?"
I said, "A kitten?"
He replied, "Well... there's a few."
I immediately told myself, "DON'T LOOK IN THE BOX."
Now, before I continue, Shane and I had been talking for months about the Cat Distribution System. Our last cat passed away at 18Β½ years old in April of 2024, and we knew that someday we wanted a pair of young kittens that could grow up with our rescue dogs.
I wish I could tell you I carefully thought through the decision I made next.
I DID NOT. πΉ
I got out of the car and looked in the box.
Three. THREE. Three baby kittens stared back at me with big blue baby-kitten eyes. IT WAS OVER.
A few minutes later, I was driving away from the drive-thru with an open box full of tiny furry velociraptors armed with needle claws. Only then did I text Shane.
"You're either going to love me or you're going to hate me. It could really go either way." His response? "Ok why."
Now, if you know me, you know that could have meant ANYTHING. I have a tendency to... DO THINGS. πΉCrazy things like buy an antique store and an 1881 building! π€·ββοΈ
Then I sent him a picture of the kittens that were already riding home with me.
His response? "Oh my."
He opened the picture and about 15 seconds later: "They're cute."
And then, two minutes later, came the text that told me exactly how this story was going to end... "We have litter."
Not "No." Not "Turn around." Not "Absolutely not."
Just... "We have litter."
At that point it was clear the kittens had a home. The perfect home.
But this is only the beginning of their story... and the beginning of a week that would send me down a path I never expected.
Just look at them Look at them! How could I say no?? Couldn't!
Stay tuned for part 2...
