May was Mental Health Awareness month. Every year, SEIU Healthcare 1199NW sponsors a table at the NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) walk to support ending the stigma associated with behavioral health and support those working towards mental health care for all.

This year many past, present, and future 1199NW behavioral health workers stopped by the booth along with countless walkers and community members to pick up a Cliff bar and share our message that We All Belong!

1199NW joined the 2026 LELO (A Legacy of Equality, Leadership and Organizing) annual event held in honor of the organization's founders Tyree Scott, Silme Domingo, and Gene Viernes. LELO-Seattle fights to build solidarity with workers around the world, because economic justice cannot be achieved without racial justice and solidarity with workers' struggles both home and abroad. ✊ We left the event feeling inspired and connected to our labor siblings and our shared mission. 💜

When we fight, we win. ✊✨By staying determined, dedicated, and unified, behavioral health workers at DESC in Seattle overwhelmingly ratified our amazing new contract!

At Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC), we provide a wide range of services to the most vulnerable members of our communities who may be experiencing substance use disorders, mental illness, or homelessness. By standing together and persevering, we achieved real commitments to make our workplace safer and more equitable with better training and wages to make this work more sustainable.

Some highlights include more protections for workers, wage increases to recruit and retain, full participation in the Healthcare Training Fund, and the inclusion of many new positions into our bargaining unit (adding over 120 members).

Shout out our amazing bargaining team and contract action team who made sure we all stood strong across 30+ facilities and all three shifts.

After months of hard work and taking action together (including holding an informational picket!), St. Anne RNs and Service healthcare workers in Burien have voted to ratify our new contract! We secured strong wage increases to recruit and retain, new workplace protections, and more. 💪

RNs and Service workers at St. Anne Hospital in Burien reached a tentative agreement on a great contract. After 10 months of holding strong at the bargaining table, standing in solidarity across job classes, and countless actions including an informational picket, we secured a contract that will recruit and retain us.
