Providing unaccompanied young refugees and asylum seekers with a safe, positive space and supporting them to succeed while actively contributing to our communities. Kent Refugee Action Network is an independent charity that provides help and support to young asylum seekers and refugees who have arrived in the United Kingdom unaccompanied by an adult. Via an experienced dedicated team of voluntary

and paid staff, we are proud to help this distressed, often vilified yet courageous and resourceful group of young people. For more information on the charity and the work that we do, or to find out about volunteering please visit www.kran.org.uk

We’re asking you to support us in our Find Courage for KRAN summer fundraising campaign.

All money raised is for our work with young, unaccompanied asylum seekers and refugees, including our popular sessions in Canterbury and Folkestone. These are vital for integration, mental healing and community building. ⚽

Rough sleeping, sofa surfing, temporary accommodation - this is the reality for many young asylum seekers and refugees.

Our advocacy and support team came together with Elsabet and Molly of Refugees at Home to discuss the issues and find ways forward. Their work - and that of their volunteer hosts - is inspiring and we hope for future collaborations.

"Overreliance on such technology [AI] risks replicating systematic errors rather than fixing them, so we will be replacing human error with machine error."

KRAN Patron Baroness Julia Neuberger speaking in the House of Lords (Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill amendments) in November 2025.

The Home Office says it will introduce AI facial recognition on young asylum seekers whose age is disputed at the Dover reception centre.

We remain unconvinced that the technology will accurately assess the age of a child who is traumatised, exhausted and hungry. And then there's the question of racial bias.

As The Helen Bamber Foundation says, age assessments should be carried out by trained social workers, not machines.

It's Volunteers' Week and we salute all those who give their time, energy and expertise to us and our young people.

Mentors make up the majority of them - Jane has been mentoring for three years and here, she tells us why she does it and the difference it makes: bit.ly/4wYdLCW

Big thanks to her and to all. We really couldn't do it without you. 💛
