Providing unaccompanied young refugees and asylum seekers with a safe, positive space and supporting them to succeed while actively contributing to our communities. Kent Refugee Action Network is an independent charity that provides help and support to young asylum seekers and refugees who have arrived in the United Kingdom unaccompanied by an adult. Via an experienced dedicated team of voluntary

and paid staff, we are proud to help this distressed, often vilified yet courageous and resourceful group of young people. For more information on the charity and the work that we do, or to find out about volunteering please visit www.kran.org.uk

"True believer", “role model" and "force to be reckoned with" - just some of the tributes paid to former KRAN Chair, Ann Whitborne.

Ex-teacher Ann, who passed away last month, was involved in our establishment as a charity in 2003 and also held the position of Treasurer and Chair.

She will be missed by us all, including the many hundreds of young people who benefited from her commitment and vision - and who still continue to do so.

Just thinking back to our Summer Scheme and sending heartfelt thanks to everyone who made it such a big success. 💛

Three weeks of learning and fun for our young people, who turned up in higher numbers than previous years (between 35 and 50 each day) and in all that heat!

Of course, none of it would have been possible without The Canterbury Academy - thank you for hosting us again and to staff for their support.

Big congrats and thanks to courageous Katherine, who swam 21 miles - the English Channel width - in a cold-water lido for us. 🏊‍♀️👏

She raised more than £1,000 (some amount!), all of which will go towards our work with young unaccompanied refugees and asylum seekers. 💛

The third - and final week - of our Summer Scheme and it's going to be ace! 👍

Young people have today been learning how to play tennis, thanks to Vanessa, Phoebe and Maya of Kent Tennis.

As well as physical activity, it was great for teamwork and leadership skills - themes also explored in a separate badge-making session.

There's lots more to come, including cricket with Sports Connect UK and Kent Wildlife Trust workshops.
