Flashes Fighting Hunger at Kent State University is a student-powered and volunteer-driven organization dedicated to reducing food waste and promoting food security. Utilizing recovered food, shared kitchen space in Tri-Towers, and volunteers who want to make a difference, Flashes Fighting Hunger is able to host multiple food pantries on-campus each week as well as prepare nutritious meals for tho
se struggling with food insecurity. Launched in January 2011 as a part of the national Campus Kitchen Project, we've operated as a recognized student organization at Kent State University ever since. We recover food weekly from Trader Joe's, the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank, the Haymaker Farmers' Market, Kent State Culinary Services, and individual and group donors. Our volunteers repurpose food donations and distribute at our on-campus food pantries and to hot meal programs in the area such as Kent Social Services, Center of Hope, Miller House, Access Shelter, Kentway Apartments, and more! You can visit us each weekend as the Haymaker Farmers Market, where we have food demos, samples, and recipe cards. Interested in volunteering? For more information, please contact: [email protected]
We will respond to your posts or emails as soon as possible, and we look forward to your involvement with Flashes Fighting Hunger!
