Avenue of Flags Portage

Avenue of Flags Portage Joe and Jen Yensel started Avenue of Flags Portage as a way to memorialize John Yensel, of Centervill

Joe and Jen Yensel started Avenue of Flags Portage as a way to memorialize John Yensel, of Centerville, Ohio. John was very active in the Centerville Optimist club and enjoyed participating in Avenue of Flags several times per year. We began the Avenue of Flags on Caranor Road in Kent, Oh on Memorial Day, 2016. We are hoping to grow throughout Kent and surrounding Portage County. All proceeds go t

o The Children’s Advocacy Center in Portage County. Our long term goal is to start a scholarship for returning veterans wanting to go into law enforcement, much like John wanted to do as a veteran himself.

Good evening friends and neighbors! You may have noticed we did not do flags for Memorial Day. Our entire family was sick. We are working on recruiting and organizing volunteers and will be using these next few months to prepare for the next holiday. Please look for a flyer at your home or message us for details. Thank you for your patience!

We are back for the season! We’d love to see your photos of the flags on your street. Also, we encourage you to picnic in your front yard. Socially distancing and celebrating as a community can still happen 🙂 As a reminder, the flags are purchased, installed and stored by the Yensel family in exchange for a donation to the community. All donations go directly and fully to the Children’s Advocacy Center in Portage County. Thank you for being a part of our community and participating!
