Thank you Kent for showing up! đź’ś

Our final Purple Light Nights walk brought neighbors, local businesses, community leaders, DAWN board members, clients and staff together at Kent Station to make support for survivors visible.

Thank you to Kent Downtown Partnership, Kent Station and the City of Kent for helping bring our community together; to Dana Ralph, Kent Mayor, Travis Couture for State House and Kent Chamber of Commerce CEO Zenovia Harris for joining us; and to Kent Police for providing a bicycle es**rt along the route.

Cool Bird brought extra energy, but every person who walked, carried a sign or welcomed us through downtown helped send the same message: survivors are not alone, and Kent stands with them.

Thank you to every partner, business and community member who made the evening so meaningful.

Today, DAWN honors Indigenous peoples—their cultures, histories, strength, and continued contributions to our communities.

We also recognize that Indigenous women and girls experience disproportionately high rates of domestic and sexual violence, often while facing additional barriers to finding safety and support.

For DAWN, honoring Indigenous communities means more than acknowledging this reality. It means believing survivors, respecting their choices, and helping ensure support is available when they are ready to reach out.

Every survivor deserves to feel heard, respected, and safe. If you or someone you know needs confidential support, DAWN’s advocates are available 24 hours a day at 425-656-7867. 💜

Most days, DAWN staff meet people during some of the hardest moments of their lives.

That work asks our team to bring compassion, steadiness, knowledge, and care—day after day. Our 2026 Staff Retreat created space for the people behind that work to pause and simply enjoy being together. 💜

There were fairground games, prizes, plenty of laughter, and more than a few wonderfully silly photos. Later, the team gathered around buckets of flowers and created bouquets together.

For a day, coworkers who usually connect through meetings, calls, programs, and urgent needs had time to connect as people.

Moments like these are not separate from DAWN’s mission. They help sustain it. When staff feel connected, appreciated, and cared for, they are better able to continue showing up for survivors, families, and one another.

To the entire DAWN team: thank you for the heart, strength, and humanity you bring to this work every day.

Awareness can change what happens next. đź’ś

When people know how to recognize domestic violence, respond without judgment and connect someone with support, survivors are less likely to face abuse alone.

Through DAWN’s Community Awareness program, we provide domestic violence education and resource-navigation training for organizations, professionals and community members. We also attend community events to make information about domestic violence and DAWN’s services easier to find.

Want to deepen your knowledge? DAWN’s next Domestic Violence Institute is coming up. This 24-hour hybrid training explores domestic violence, survivor advocacy and the systems that affect survivors. Space is limited.

Domestic violence doesn’t stay at home. It can affect a survivor’s safety, financial stability, work, relationships, and ability to move through everyday life.

That’s why community conversations matter—especially during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

DAWN recently joined the Puyallup/Sumner Chamber of Commerce’s Women in Business gathering, connecting with local women and sharing how businesses, workplaces, and community leaders can help survivors recognize that support is available.

Every conversation helps more people recognize abuse, respond with compassion, and know where to find confidential help. đź’ś

The walks may be ending, but Purple Light Nights® continues throughout October. 💜

All month long, life-sized purple silhouettes will be displayed in our communities in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Each silhouette represents a survivor DAWN has served and shares part of their story. QR codes connect visitors with those stories, while identifying details remain confidential to protect each survivor’s privacy.

The silhouettes are a visible reminder that domestic violence affects real people in every community—and that survivors deserve to be seen, believed and supported.

If you see one this month, take a moment to stop, read and share what you learn.

You can also help keep DAWN’s services available to survivors by making a gift:
