Piw Global Relief The Water Project-A Charity providing Access to Clean Water. 1/7 My True Story: I grew up in the midst of a devastating water crisis.

Twenty-five years ago, I lived in a small city called Gambella, Ethiopia. At that time, I was very young and, the journey to water was difficult. I suffered with many woman and girls who made the two hour trek to the pond every day. We often walked in temperatures of 100+ degrees, while we kept watch for the many wild animals that could harm (or kill) us. We had to take this arduous journey three times a day. In February of 2021, I finally made it back home. It had been a very long time since I had seen my family, and when I woke my first morning there, my stomach was full of butterflies - I was so excited. On that morning, I looked for water to wash my face with or to take a shower, but there was no water to be found. I was shocked and heartbroken to find that my family, and the entire community, has suffered and struggled all this time (without access to clean, running water.
