I’m not one for public shaming.

But I’ll admit—today I had a moment where I thought, if I had a Wall of Shame, someone would be going on it. 😂

I even briefly considered posting the video of the incident.

But I won’t.

Instead, I’m going to say something that I think is much more important:

This is a very special place.

Being here is a privilege. It is not a right.

No one is entitled to this place—not our visitors, not our volunteers, and honestly, not even me simply because my name is on the paperwork.

I consider myself a steward of this little piece of land, its history, its animals, and everything we are building here together.

And part of that responsibility is protecting what makes it special.

We have a handful of very simple, very reasonable rules. They exist to protect our animals, our property, our guests, and the peaceful environment we work so hard to maintain.

So when one of us asks you to follow a rule, please understand that we aren’t trying to ruin anyone’s fun or make anyone feel unwelcome.

We are protecting something precious.

And we will continue to do that—even when it means having an uncomfortable conversation or asking someone to change their behavior.

To the overwhelming majority of you who visit, respect the animals, respect the farm, follow the rules, and help us preserve the magic of this place:

Today, I had one of those moments I think I’ll carry with me forever. ❤️

My little adopted niece, Kateri, was helping welcome some new visitors to the farm.

I said to her, “Look, Kateri—these are new friends. They just found the farm today.”

She looked at them and, without missing a beat, asked:

“Are you gonna grow up here too?”

And my heart just about leapt out of my chest.

Because in her little world, that’s what happens here.

You don’t just visit the farm.

You grow up here.

You come back. You make memories. You watch the animals grow older. The animals watch you grow older. You make friends. You become part of something. And somewhere along the way, this little farm becomes a piece of your childhood and your story.

In that tiny, completely innocent question, Kateri reminded me exactly why I’m here.

This is where I belong.
This is where I’m supposed to be.

And if we’re fortunate enough to do this right, there will be children who grow up here—and someday bring their own children back to the farm that helped raise them.

So to all of our old friends, and all the new friends who are just finding us:

🤍 What Makes This Sanctuary Different?

Briscot Farm & Sanctuary was never meant to be simply a place where animals are rescued.

It is a sanctuary for animals—and for people.

It is a place where families can slow down, children can connect with animals and the land, and people from every walk of life can come together over something beautifully simple: our shared love for animals.

Here in the Kent Valley, our eight acres represent something that is becoming increasingly rare—a piece of farmland preserved not just for today, but hopefully for generations to come.

And we dream bigger than these 8 acres.

With your help, we hope one day to expand beyond our borders, protecting more land, providing sanctuary to more animals, and creating more spaces where wildlife, farm animals, families, and community can continue to have a place in a world that seems to be shrinking around them.

We believe places like this are worth protecting.

Privately owned. Publicly supported. Community powered.

This may be our farm on paper, but in every way that matters, this is our community’s farm.

Every animal we save.
Every child who falls in love with an animal.
Every fence repaired, habitat improved, and life given another chance happens because people choose to stand beside us.

So today, we simply wanted to acknowledge you.

Thank you for growing with us. Thank you for believing in what we’re building. And thank you for helping preserve this little piece of the Kent Valley where animals and people can still find sanctuary.

There is no us without you.

The moment we reached 5,000, we committed to something BIG:

We’re installing an EPIC 50-foot rope swing here at Briscot Farm!
Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be calling in our arborist to carefully limb up the tree, prepare everything, and professionally install the rope. We’ll keep you updated along the way and let you know the moment it’s ready to SWING!
But this milestone means so much more than a number.
5,000 people chose to follow this little farm.�5,000 people are helping us share these animals’ stories.�5,000 people are helping us grow a place where we can bring smiles and save lives.

Okay what the flock is happening here?
Excuse my language but they are just making a mockery of me at this point. She didn’t even sit on this egg. She has never sat on an egg before. I left it in there as a mock so that she would not lay any more and deplete herself.
We do this every year and look what was peeking out at me during bedding change in the far corner.
Yes that’s a baby pigeon. Yes yes about a week old.

Here goes another name contest. This little bird is rare, very very rare. From retired show birds, saved from culling.

I feel like my old flock is sending me a msg. Perhaps the flood heightened their fertility or survival but after 7 years, F***y the American Fantail Pigeon, has made herself a momma.

He looks healthy, he looks happy. No intervention needed. Let’s all congratulate this sweet little guy into the world no matter how unexpected and let’s start this name contest off right.
