’Twas the night before Christmas in Kensington town,
And the cruiser rolled softly, no sirens, lights down.
The snow gently blanketed Amesbury Road bright,
As the moon cast a glow on this calm winter night.

The streets were all quiet, not a call on the air,
Just the hum of the engine and cold frosted air.
The homes were tucked snug with their families inside,
With laughter and cocoa and fires burning wide.

I cruised past the Common, so peaceful and still,
Past the old town hall resting under Shaw's Hill.
The church bells stood silent, the flag hung just right,
As stars twinkled down on Kensington’s night.

No radios crackled, no troubles in sight,
Just porch lights and wreaths glowing warm through the white.
Stockings were hung by the chimneys with care,
In hopes that Saint Nick soon would quietly be there.

I thought of the folks that I serve every day,
The waves and the nods as I pass on my way.
This badge on my chest felt lighter somehow,
With goodwill and peace filling up the town now.

Then off in the distance, a sound soft and low,
Not a call—just the wind drifting over the snow.
I smiled to myself, slowed the cruiser right down,
And wished Merry Christmas to all in the town.

So here’s to Kensington, cozy and bright,
To safe winter roads and a calm, silent night.
From this officer’s beat, with cheer and goodwill,
Merry Christmas to all, and to all—please drive safe still.

Chief Cain and the Kensington Police Department wish everyone the Happiest of Holidays, and Best New Year!

FOR IMMEDATE RELEASE: TODD BURNIM CONVICTED OF 15 COUNTS OF POSSESSION OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IMAGES

DATE: March 25, 2024

FROM: THE KENSINGTON, NH POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE ROCKINGHAM COUNTY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE

On March 20, 2024, at the conclusion of a 6-day trial, a Rockingham County jury convicted TODD BURNIM, AGE 56, of KENSINGTON, NH of 15 counts of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Images (CSAI), which was previously referred to as “child pornography”. The sentencing date has not yet been set but is expected to occur in May. Burnim worked as a paramedic for multiple local agencies.

On January 18th, 2022, the Kensington Police Department, in collaboration with NH’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Taskforce, attempted to execute a search warrant at Burnim’s South Road residence. Burnim came to the front door and then retreated inside the home when contact was made with law enforcement. After a two-hour standoff, he was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Rockingham County House of Corrections, where he has remained held on preventative detention.

A lengthy investigation proceeded under the lead of Sgt. Brad Von Haden, with extensive work by members of the Kensington Police Department and multiple ICAC forensic analysts, culminating in these charges, and others. Burnim has pending charges related to Aggravated Felonious Sexual Assault which are scheduled for trial later this year. Additionally, Burnim was recently indicted on charges related to Child Sexual Abuse Images and will be arraigned in April.

The prosecution of this case was handled by the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office, specifically County Attorney Patricia Conway, Lead Assistant County Attorney Roger “Rusty” Chadwick and Assistant County Attorney Taylor Beucler. Additionally, the RCAO team included Victim Witness Specialist Kate Winter and Paralegal Pam Strong. The jury heard testimony from law enforcement professionals from both Kensington and the ICAC Task Force, comprised of representatives across the state. Additionally, those close to Burnim testified regarding his personal use and more importantly, his understanding of technology.

In her closing argument, County Attorney Conway highlighted the seriousness of Child Sexual Abuse Imagery. Attorney Conway impressed the severity of these cases on the jury, noting that regardless of the context, every time one of these images is viewed, the child within is further victimized. The County Attorney’s Office, in collaboration with State and Local Police, will continue to prosecute these cases to the fullest extent of the law.

Kensington Chief Scott Cain and County Attorney Patricia Conway appreciate the joint efforts of all those involved in bringing this matter to a resolution.
