The goal of restoring the Union Meetimghouse is now complete, with the final project of interior painting.
The multi year journey from a vision of a restored building to the current moment has seen an outpouring of support from the community, non profit partners and the Trustees.
The building is a true representation of the heritage of Kensington, and stands proudly in its place in the historic “ Meetinghouse Parade” as named by the Reverend Roland Sawyer in his History of Kensington.

With the painting work progressing, it is clear that a refresh was in order for the interior! What looked white is certainly a stark contrast to the newly primed white ceiling and walls! The trim color is also a refreshing update from the current color

Our thanks go out to the community for the support allowing the restoration project to continue. This week the painters of Silver Lining Painting returned to the meetinghouse to begin the final phase of the buildings return to glory, the interior plaster patching and finish painting. The finished project is a result of cooperation between the NH LCHIP program, private donors and community support, along with our vendors and the Trustees. We continue to be grateful to have this iconic building standing proudly once again.

A shout out to Tim Estey, of The Kensington Studio, for producing this years Old Home Day portrait to add to the collection!
This tradition has been a part of the Universalist annual August gathering since the early 1950’s, and the Trustees are proud to be able to honor the congregants in this way!

It’s August, which means that the annual summer services at the Universalist Church are going to happen soon!
On August 17 at 10, Pastor Sherri from the Kensington and Newfields churches will be the guest minister at the traditional Old Home Service. We have invited the congregants from her Newfields Parish to join us in celebrating this traditional service. After the service, those in attendance are encouraged to join the congregation for a group photo in front of the building, continuing a 75 year tradition.
On August 24 at 10, the Reverand Thompson will be our visiting minister by popular request. We hope to see members of the Kensington community at these services, to gather and pray with us, and to celebrate the renovations to this Kensington landmark!
The interior painting, the last scheduled portion of the building renovation will begin after the summer services, bringing a conclusion to the multi year restoration of this architectural gem!

The bell rang for the first time in the newly restored belfry for today's trustees meeting. A little carpentry and detail work left to do on the front wall, and the sanctuary plaster repairs are on schedule for completion in about a month!

Priming of the front wall begins! We are so proud of these contractors and their work.

Down comes the scaffolding which has been a fixture at the building for months. Make sure to take a long look at the crown that now graces the Union Meetinghouse! On October 1, the painters return to do the stripping and finish on the last side of the building, which will complete the journey around this beauty!
Meanwhile, the interior is buzzing with the plaster restoration. the Trustees will be very happy to show the community our pride when we announce the grand reopening of this gem.

The installation of the new finials was completed today! There is still the surrounding balustrade and the installation of the louvered blinds, but what a moment in our journey!
