πŸ’œ September is Su***de Prevention & Awareness Month πŸ’œ

Su***de prevention is about more than recognizing warning signs. It’s also about understanding the factors that can affect mental health, coping, and behavior.

Research has found a consistent association between smoking/ni****ne use and suicidal thoughts and behaviors. A 2021 review in The American Journal on Addictions found that smoking was associated with increased su***de risk across multiple populations and explored how ni****ne’s effects on impulsivity, stress, and emotional regulation may contribute to this relationship.

This is another reason why to***co and ni****ne prevention matters, particularly for young people.

- Preventing ni****ne addiction can help protect more than physical health.
- Talking openly about stress, mental health, and healthy coping can make a difference.
- Checking in with someone can let them know they aren't alone.
- Supporting someone who wants to quit ni****ne without judgment can be an important part of their overall well-being.

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available.

Call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Let’s keep the conversation going about mental health, ni****ne, substance use, and the importance of connection. πŸ’œ

Today, the KRW Tobacco-Free Coalition had so much fun visiting the Boys & Girls Club! β˜οΈπŸ’™

We talked about how to***co companies use bright colors, fun designs, and sweet flavors to market commercial to***co products, including v**es, to young people.

Then, instead of a v**e cloud πŸ‘Žβ˜οΈ we built healthy clouds β›…οΈπŸŽ filled with positive choices, trusted people, healthy habits, and things that bring us joy. The kids had some amazing ideas!

When we asked what helps them stay healthy, one student shared, β€œEating a healthy diet and exercising." Another said their healthy everyday choice is, β€œI take care of my hygiene." They also drew pictures of things that make them happy. One child drew a softball, another drew their mom, and every cloud was filled with unique reminders of what matters most to them. ❀️

To finish the activity, each student's healthy cloud lit up as a reminder that when life gets stressful, there are healthier ways to cope than smoking or va**ng.

Thank you to the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha for having us. We had a blast and loved seeing everyone's creativity shine! βœ¨β˜οΈπŸ’™
