Come celebrate Denmark’s “4th of July”
Denmark’s Constitution Day (Grundlovsdag), commemorates the signing of Denmark’s first democratic constitution by King Frederik VII in 1849, ending absolute monarchy. It marks the birth of modern Danish democracy and a constitutional monarchy, later updated on June 5 in 1915 (women's suffrage) and 1953 (current constitution).
Organized by the Royal Danish Consulate, Milwaukee and Friends of the Consul
Behind the scenes, I have been working on making Danish Day an event in Milwaukee. The second Sunday of every June has been selected as the date. While we did celebrate Danish Constitution Day on Saturday – June 11, 2022 at Estabrook Park, Shorewood–this year’s plan is designed to be more sustainable. The goal is to make Danish Day an annual event, here is Milwaukee.
The Bavarian Bierhaus has generously decided to provide us with their festival ground free of charge. The Bierhaus is conveniently located off highway 43 and there is plenty of parking.
We will be looking for volunteers to make this a festive event. Anyone interested in helping with the planning, advertising, and spreading the word is welcome. We can decorate and make the festival ground our own for this event, so starting thinking about how you can contribute.
There will also be games and perhaps access to the soccer field as well.
If you are interested in getting involved, please reach out to Annemarie Sawkins at 612-850-5155 or to my email at [email protected]
