We will host our beginning beekeeping classes in spring of 2022. These will be in small groups of 4 to 6 in our classroom with hands on training in our apiary. We have bee jackets on hand for those that are uncertain if they want to get bees. Please do not purchase equipment until you have taken the class. We will guide you on what you need and where to get your bees and equipment. This class will go over 2 half days. Sign up will be in March. Your instructors will be Masterbeekeeper Katharina Davitt and Paul Davitt, plus a few happy dogs.

Time to wrap your hives for winter. We did another single oxalic acid v***r mite treatment this week, because it has been warm and mites had a chance to built up. It has become standard to do a single treatment this late in the season. We did out fall treatment regiment allready. Even another one at the end of January is not a bad idea. Outside temps should be above 35F do the cluster inside of the hive breaks cluster. Today we will add our styrofoam insulation to reduce cold stress on the bees. This will create homeostasis inside of the hive reducing energy need to stay warm. They will cluster at night, but not massively tight. This reduces stress and emulates conditions found inside of a tree hive.

Black Friday sale on Jump Starters

Many of the old fashioned jump starters are being replaced with newer digital controlled batteries. Nice in one way, bad if you need it for your oxalic acid wand. These unit will not stay on for the length of a v***rization to prevent a burnout of the jump starter. Stanley is discontinuing their regular ones and their units are now under the EverStart name.
Walmart currently runs a black friday sale on them. I've ordered another 1000 unit for us. Also you can purchase a replacement battery pack, if needed.

Arrives by Tue, Nov 23 Buy EverStart 1000 Peak Amp Jump Starter, Pivoting LED Light, DC and USB Port at Walmart.com

This is something to think about and to see where acids can lower the ph in a hive and kill certain types of bee viruses. Now more research is needed.

Here, we present a structural analysis of the genome delivery of slow bee paralysis virus (SBPV) that can cause lethal infections of honeybees and bumblebees. The possibility of blocking virus genome delivery would provide a tool to prevent the spread of this viral pathogen. We describe the three-di...
