Hello KGK Families!

We trust that you had a great Holiday season and are off to a fresh start in 2025!

The last time we talked, KGK had suspended the 2024 season due to a registration enrollment that was around 47% of our desired end target number as of July 1st. That gap was too large in our opinion to push for the remaining numbers we needed to execute a fruitful season in the remaining 2 months of registration. We did not take the decision of suspending the season lightly and we listened and watched what unfolded. Some children enrolled with CBYF, some played Middle School sports only, and some took up altogether different sports. But, the majority of our past KGK participants did not participate in football or cheer at all. This is what we were afraid of, and we hope this turns around.

This is where you come in. If the community wants KGK to continue to offer the services that we provide, then it will need people willing to volunteer on KGK’s board to make it happen. A vocal minority were not pleased with how past boards handled disciplinary matters or future roadmaps for the league. This is an opportunity to start fresh and new. Every single board position is up for discussion. Every. Single. One. We have some previous board members that are willing to help transition and assist new board members and head coaches. Where we go from here is up to the community.

But there is a catch. Time is of the essence. In the next month, we need to see inquiries from people like you willing to step up. Even if you don’t know what it involves yet, we would love to talk with you and answer any questions you may have on what it takes to be a board member or coach in KGK. The quicker a new board is put in place, the more time that board has to make any changes before enrollment for the new season starts.

We want to see these children back out and doing what they love. Too many were left on the sidelines last fall. Let’s not turn our backs on them just yet. Will you help to make their next season the greatest yet?

Deadline for new position nominations is February 14th, 2025. Elections to be held February 15th, 2025 at the board meeting.

Breaking bad news is never easy. The Kennewick Grid Kids Board of Directors has concluded that it is necessary to cancel the 2024 Fall Season. This decision was not taken lightly.

At the time of this decision, our enrollment numbers were tracking at around a 40% participation rate compared to what we need to run a season. That is about 50% below where we need to be at the beginning of July. There is a potential that we could have had a mass influx of signups to bridge that gap, but we wanted to give all of our kids a chance to explore other avenues.

For those that have already signed up, refunds have already started to be processed. You should see them appear within days. Please email league officials if you have any issues or questions.

Kennewick Grid Kids will evaluate holding a 2025 season. Support and desire for an offering will come from the community. We look forward to hearing from you and hope to see your support to volunteer for such an opportunity.

Your children have several options for football related activities this fall. The City of Kennewick and Richland as well as the Boys and Girls Club of Benton/Franklin Counties offer Flag Football for younger kids. Every middle school in the area offers 7th and 8th grade football. Columbia Basin Youth Football also offers a variety of offerings depending on your geographical location and high school boundary that you live in.

It's never easy to cancel a season. Our covid season of 2020 taught us that our constituents were faithful and strong willed and stuck by KGK. We hope to see that continued support in the future. Please support our children in the community at this time. There is going to be a flood of participants to other offerings, and we would hate to see any child left behind that wants to play this great game or cheer them on.

We want to send out a special thank you to all of our volunteers so far this year and all in the past. Your time and effort given to this association is what keeps this going. Without you, this would not be possible.

Good luck to all of our children of KGK. We will miss your smiling faces this fall.
