THE REAL REASON MARRIAGES FAIL - Pastor Vlad Savchuk

It’s not because of distance, differences, or even sin in the ordinary sense.

A hardened heart is what breaks a marriage. A soft heart is what builds a great one.

"Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce?" He said, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so." Matthew 19:7-8

It's more than irreconcilable differences. More than "we can't get along." It's a heart that went hard, one buried offense at a time.

A heart never goes hard in a moment. Here's the process:

1. An offense goes unforgiven.
Small, "not worth a fight," so it's buried alive instead of dealt with.

2. Buried offenses become criticism.
You stop addressing the behavior and start attacking the person: "you never," "you always."

3. Criticism grows into contempt.
Eye-rolling, sarcasm, mockery, looking down on your spouse. The hardening becomes visible.

4. The wounded spouse goes defensive.
Self-protection replaces openness. Nobody's listening anymore, both are just guarding.

5. It ends in stonewalling.
Shutting down, going silent, walling the other person out. A literal stone wall around the heart.

Dr. John Gottman calls these the Four Horsemen: criticism, contempt, defensiveness, stonewalling. Contempt is the single strongest predictor of divorce.

James S*xton, top divorce attorney, says "Marriages fail slowly, then all at once."

3 things that destroy marriages:
1. You stop seeing her.
2. You frame everything as criticism.
3. You keep score and remind them when it's unbalanced.

The health of your marriage rises and falls on the softness of your heart. Keep it soft toward your spouse.

Just because love is real, it doesn't mean it needs to be awakened. Sometimes you just need to let it sleep.

Don’t Date Monkeys - Pastor Vlad Savchuk

Dating advice from the first man who ever went looking for a wife. (Adam & Eve: Genesis 2)

Adam knew his Master.
Adam knew his mission.
Adam met his mate.

It’s in that order.
Master → mission → mate.
If you get the sequence wrong, everything else falls apart.

• Before you meet the mate, you have to know the Master. Get your identity from God first.
A relationship with God makes you whole. Every other relationship only reveals your holes.
If you walk in empty, no person can fill what only God was meant to fill.

• Before you meet the mate, you need a mission.
Adam had a garden to keep before he had a wife to love.
Have a job. Have a purpose. Tend your garden first.

"So Adam gave names to all the cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him." Genesis 2:20

• Adam searched the whole animal kingdom and refused to settle.

A monkey is someone from a different kingdom. A monkey is who you grab out of impatience and hand to God to fix.

Before God brings Eve, the devil brings a donkey.
Don't settle for a monkey.

• God is clear: marry "only in the Lord." Don't be unequally yoked. "...only in the Lord." 1 Corinthians 7:39

"Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?" 2 Corinthians 6:14

Same King.
Same kingdom.
Same direction.

• Here's what you need to know:
You will wait for God to bring the right person or you'll wait for God to change the wrong person.
Waiting is not optional. You only get to choose which kind of waiting you'll do.

• Adam couldn't find a spouse, so God put him to sleep.

"And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place." Genesis 2:21

"Do not stir up nor awaken love until it pleases." Song of Solomon 2:7

Especially for teens: it might just not be your time yet. That's not God’s punishment; it might be His protection.

• While Adam slept, God worked.

Adam didn't find a wife; he woke up to one. The best match in history happened while the man was unconscious. He was not searching, swiping, or stirring.
You're not missing out while you're asleep. God is building while you're asleep.

The numbers back it up: only a small fraction of high-school couples ever marry, and those who marry young divorce at far higher rates, while couples who wait until their mid-twenties beat the average. You're not losing "the one" by sleeping through high school. Statistically, the sleeping is what saves the marriage.

• From the very beginning, nakedness was reserved for a husband and his wife.

"Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed." Genesis 2:24–25

S*x and nakedness belong inside marriage; not in any relationship before it.
Nakedness in God's sequence produces no shame. Nakedness out of sequence produces nothing but shame.

God doesn’t test your faith to destroy it. He tests it to reveal it, refine it, and move your trust from the outcome to Him. 🔥 Vlad Savchuk
