The Kennewick Fire Department is an ALS/transporting agency that provides fire rescue and emergency medical services to the citizens of Kennewick. Our mission is to protect the lives and property of the citizens and visitors of our community from fires, natural and manmade disasters and traumatic or life threatening medical emergencies. To that end, the Fire Department works to maintain a fire saf

e and informed community and responds to almost 10,000 calls a year. Our population is approximately 80,000 and growing daily. The Kennewick Fire Department is responsible for providing emergency medical and fire protection to over 25 square miles and, in addition, provides EMS services to 300 miles of surrounding County area. Kennewick has a diverse economic base ranging from the nuclear industry to agricultural. We are located near the confluence of the Yakima, Snake and Columbia Rivers. We are an agency of 80 employees consisting of nine staff members and 71 full-time paid line firefighters. Each shift is commanded by a Battalion Chief with five Captains to run each of our five Fire Stations. The Kennewick Fire Department maintains emergency apparatus that consists of five engines, one 105' aerial ladder truck, five ALS medic units, one grass firefighting unit, one command vehicle and six staff vehicles. Firefighters belong to the Local 1296 International Association of Firefighters Union who negotiate for wages and benefits with the City of Kennewick. We reserve the right to delete any submissions that contain:

• Vulgar language, including graphic, obscene, explicit, racist or sexist comments

• Personal attacks of any kind

• Abusive, hateful or slanderous comments to any person, ethnicity, religion, organization or nation

• Spam

• Comments that suggest, endorse or encourage illegal activity

• Promotion, solicitation or advertisement of particular services, products or political organizations

• Infringement of copyrights or trademarks

• Personally identifiable or sensitive information, including medical information

A-Shift L1296 crews had the unique opportunity to participate in live fire training at an acquired structure today. This type of burn to learn training allows our members to observe real fire behavior and practice critical firefighting skills in a controlled environment. Crews completed multiple evolutions focused on interior fire attack and search operations.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the generous family who donated this structure for training purposes. Opportunities like this are far a few between and help our ability to better serve YOU!

Help us congratulate four of your L1296 members who recently graduated from the Tri-Cities Regional Fire Academy!

Throughout this 16-week academy, these newly appointed probationary firefighters and their peers from surrounding agencies learned the foundational skills necessary to safely and effectively perform on the fireground. Our L1296 probationary firefighters were led by FF/EMT Calvin Hoohuli, who served as their Assigned Company Officer (ACO) throughout the academy.

Please join us in wishing these members the best of luck as they begin the next chapter of their careers. Having received their shift and station assignments, they will soon be on the line utilizing those skills they learned and growing on those skills.

This quarter’s Technical Rescue Team training focus is high angle operations, with an emphasis on elevator rescue.

A big thank you to Trios Hospital for partnering with our crews and providing a unique training opportunity. By allowing us access to an out-of-service elevator, our members were able to get hands-on, real-world reps in a controlled environment.

Opportunities like this strengthen our skills, improve coordination, and ultimately help us better serve our community.

Please join us in congratulating L1296 member Andre Ursino on successfully completing the IAFF 7th District Executive Leadership Series (ELS).
This highly intensive 12-month program focuses on advanced labor education and leadership development. Andre’s dedication, sacrifice, and time away from family reflect the level of commitment required to complete this course.
The knowledge and experience gained through ELS will bring tremendous value to L1296 as we continue working to better serve our membership and community.

A busy start to the year for your Local 1296 Kennewick Firefighters. Monthly dispatch numbers for the city, we operate out of 5 stations, three dedicated stations and two jump crew stations. We are proud to serve the citizens of Kennewick!

Yesterday morning at approximately 06:45, your L1296 Kennewick Firefighters were dispatched to the 100 block of West Kennewick Ave for reports of smoke coming from a downtown restaurant. Crews arrived within minutes and went straight to work. Deploying hose lines, conducting a searches, and ventilating the roof using multiple cuts and a trench cut to quickly contain the fire to a single business.

During overhaul, firefighters discovered several kittens inside. They were safely rescued and turned over to a local animal shelter.

We are proud to serve the citizens of Kennewick!

Over the past few days members of L1296 joined firefighters from across the country in Washington, D.C. for the IAFF Legislative Conference. The event brings union firefighters together to meet with members of United States Congress and advocate for issues that impact the fire service and its members.

Proud to stand alongside firefighters from across the nation and locally to ensure our voices are heard and the communities we serve are represented. Pictured are Local 1296, Local 1052 and local I-24 members.

Your local 1296 Kennewick firefighters spent the weekend participating in the Seattle Firefighter Stairclimb at the Columbia Center, climbing 69 floors (1,356 steps) in support of Blood Cancer United. Since September, our 18 members helped raise funds for the cause and joined thousands of firefighters from across the country and around the world for the climb.

There’s no better way to finish the event than celebrating together with the loved ones who support us every day. 💪
