This cute baby deer was spotted on the trail recently by hiker Doneta Robinson on May 29. Mother deer will often leave their fawns alone as a survival strategy. Adult deer have a much stronger scent than babies, so it draws predators away from their fawns.

As a reminder, if you see a fawn alone when you are hiking, please do not disturb it.

Because of a 60% chance of rain during the event and the requirement that volunteers be notified a day in advance, I have cancelled the workday for May 9, 2026.
