Thank you to everyone who attended last night's Volunteer Recognition Dinner! This annual event is a great opportunity to connect with volunteers from across the park. This year's event was also bittersweet, as it was the last dinner with the park's longtime volunteer coordinator, Amanda Corman. We wish her the best in her new role at Mill Springs Battlefield!

Doanld Olds and Mike Collett attended the National Park Friends Alliance (NPFA) meeting in Estes Park, CO near Rocky Mountain National Park from September 22 to 24 sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Conservancy. This annual meeting held by a different NPFA partner every year provides an update on what is going on in the National Parks, provides training to attendees on how to effectively run their organizations, and improve their fund raising skills.

The Friends of Kennesaw Mountain NBP 2026 annual business meeting will be held on Sunday, October 4th at 2pm in the park visitor center education room.

This meeting will include a quick review of the year’s activities, a tentative calendar of 2027 events, as well as the 2026-27 election of officers. To honor everyone’s time, this meeting should only last a little over an hour. Given the October date of the annual meeting, there will be no October 2026 quarterly meeting, but the new board will convene, organize and hold a working session on Tuesday, October 20th at 6pm, at a location to be announced.

Please plan to attend on the fourth and as always, thank you for everything you do for the park and for the Friends group.

The cannons near the summits of Big and Little Kennesaw are some of the most photographed items in the park. The cannon depicted in this image is on top of Little Kennesaw. Almost all the cannon barrels in the park are original to the Civil War, though only the cannon inside the museum is known to have served in the Atlanta Campaign.

The Friends of Kennesaw Mountain, REI, and HOKA on September 19, 2026, sponsored a “Get Outside and Hike” two-part event on September 19, 2026. The first was a two-mile hike from the Pigeon Hill parking lot. Hoka let attendees try on their shoes before the hike started. Upon completion of the hike, attendees were invited to the REI Kennesaw store for a catered lunch, community, and a chance to meet other hiking enthusiasts.
