For the second year in a row, Magnolia Midlands GYSTC has had the honor of partnering with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Caretta Research Project to provide six Member System teachers and one board member with the incredible opportunity to stay overnight on Wassaw Island and observe sea turtles coming ashore to nest and lay their eggs.

This immersive experience offered participants the chance to learn directly from research biologists about turtle tagging and the critical importance of conservation efforts.

Thank you to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Caretta Research Project for making this unique and impactful learning opportunity possible!

Disclaimer: All photos, videos, and research activities shown were conducted under state and federal permits with the Caretta Research Project. Sea turtles are protected wildlife, and it is illegal to harass, disturb, handle, or interfere with them or their nests without proper authorization and permits. Please observe wildlife responsibly and give nesting turtles and hatchlings plenty of space. 🐢🌊
