The U.S. Department of Commerce, Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) has announced the appointment of Jessica G. Cavazos as Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Minority Business Development.
Jessica Cavazos’ appointment as the first-ever Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Minority Business Development is another historic milestone for the MBDA. Prior to joining the agency, Jessica served as President and CEO of the Wisconsin Latino Chamber of Commerce. Jessica also has a strong background in community engagement, economic equity, and diverse business development, having previously served as a Congressional Liaison and as the Executive Director of the Volusia County Chamber of Commerce. She has been nationally recognized for her leadership and commitment to advancing entrepreneurship as a basis for success in historically marginalized communities.
“It is an honor to serve America’s minority-owned businesses in this role. Growing up in South Texas and serving vulnerable communities across the country has allowed me to witness first-hand the inequities that keep minorities from their full potential,” says Deputy Under Secretary Cavazos. “In my service to the MBDA and this Administration, I will aim to be a change agent for minority businesses and help evolve their generational wealth.”
Ms. Cavazos attributes her humble upbringing, strong family values, and her mother’s immigrant journey as the foundation of her commitment to lead with purpose and transform communities. Her leadership will be invaluable to MBDA’s elevation as the leading voice and resource in the Federal Government for the minority business community.
