Thank you to Joey LaHatte - City of Kenner Councilman, District 3 for standing with Kenner firefighters and bringing attention to the serious issues affecting our department.

We also thank WDSU News for helping shine a light on the concerns Kenner firefighters have continued to raise — including pay, retention, morale, firefighter health, and public safety.

Councilman LaHatte’s resolution and budget amendment are important steps toward reinstating the long-standing 2% raises for Kenner Fire Department personnel and addressing firefighter cancer screenings.

Now we are asking the public to stand with us.

Kenner residents, please watch the WDSU video, stay informed, and contact your council members to respectfully urge them to support this resolution and amendment.

Kenner firefighters appreciate Joey LaHatte - City of Kenner Councilman, District 3 for standing with the men and women of the Kenner Fire Department and bringing attention to this important issue.

His budget amendment would reinstate the long-standing 2% raises for Kenner Fire Department personnel and address the status of firefighter cancer screenings.

This is about firefighter retention, firefighter health, and public safety.

Kenner voters supported the fire millage because they believed it would strengthen the fire department, protect firefighter pay and benefits, and improve public safety for the citizens of Kenner.

We encourage Kenner residents to read the article, watch the video segment, stay informed, and respectfully contact their council representatives in support of this amendment.

When firefighters are supported, Kenner is stronger.

A Kenner councilman plans to address firefighter pay issues, citing internal management concerns and morale problems within the department.

06/10/2026

Kenner firefighters are fighting for retention, fair pay progression, and public safety.

Several council members have already shown support for amending the budget to reinstate the long-standing annual increases firefighters previously received, including an actual amendment by LaHatte.

Now we need the public’s help.

Please reach out to your council members and encourage them to vote in support of the amendment.

A stronger fire department means a safer Kenner! 💪🏻
