Jack Graham was named Rotarian of the month for his work on the scholarship committee. Louise Spang our speaker on May 14th, is a board member of Hope Cemetery. Her presentation gave us many facts and updates to the cemetery. Hope Woods is a certified Arboretum with over 45 species of trees. Created in the 1750s to service the greater Kennebunk area. Recently, they have built a new stone wall at the front entrance and fixed up many parts of the cemetery. The walking path is very well kept and a joy to walk. People are encouraged to come in and enjoy the property.

Bob Scribner was our Guest May 7th. He spoke to us on Home solar power, giving us costs and pay time. It was very interesting and discussed power usage and selling back to the grid for credits. The club really enjoyed this program and was grateful for his excellent presentation.

At our meeting on Thursday, April 30 we had the pleasure of listening to Alex Gramling speak to us regarding the York County food hub. This is a plan to create a place where food can go to, as a central location to be distributed throughout York county. Alex spoke to us about food insecurity and how more than one and five people in your county are not sure where their next meal is coming from. The whole group found this fact to be unbelievable in the state and age. But it’s true. They are currently looking for a location and people that can help make this happen. If you would like more information, you can go to www.yorkcountyfoodhub.org

These pictures illustrate Kennebunk’s High School Interact Club donation to the Biddeford-Saco water project in Uganda. This will supply a village with a fresh water supply from 5 liters an hour to over 300. For the first time some buildings will have clean running water. And there will be faucets that families can come to get safe clean water. These students raised $5,000 that was then matched by other organizations to create over 15,000 toward this project. Thank you to June Huston of Kennebunk Rotary and the Interact Club of Kennebunk for all of your work to make this happen
