Sweetser is a behavioral health nonprofit that provides evidence-based treatment, support & hope.

Serving Maine since 1828, Sweetser’s caring and compassionate professionals connect approximately 20,000 children, adults and family members with services including mental and behavioral health, intellectual and developmental disabilities, recovery and education. Our team has been busy getting out into our communities, sharing mental health resources, building connections, and spreading hope! Here's a look at some of the recent events we've been proud to be part of:

🍂 Taste the Harvest | Lewiston
Good food, great music, and even better company! This lively fall celebration hosted by Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce brought the community together, and we enjoyed connecting with attendees while sharing information about Sweetser's services.

🤝 Community Resource Fair | Sanford
Building stronger communities starts with building relationships! Team members from Sweetser's Sanford Hope & Healing Center and our Know Your OPTIONS team were on hand to connect with community members and local organizations, share valuable resources, and strengthen partnerships that support the health and well-being of our communities.

🌟 Rally for Recovery | Lewiston
A celebration of hope, healing, and connection! We joined community members and organizations to recognize the power of recovery and remind everyone that recovery is possible and no one has to navigate it alone.

🎨 Vibe Check Day | Thomas College
Mental health awareness meets creativity! We invited students to take a break, express themselves, and contribute to collaborative coloring murals while encouraging conversations around mental health and well-being.

A huge thank you to the organizers of these events for welcoming Sweetser, and to our amazing staff who continue to represent our mission across Maine! 💚

Four comedians. One stage. Endless laughter! The Smiles for Sweetser Comedy Show returns to the Italian Heritage Center Weddings and Events in Portland on Friday, October 23rd, at 7PM.

Laugh along with hilarious comedians Jody Sloane, Mark Turcotte, Jolanda Logan, and Leonard Kimble. Every ticket fuels hope for Maine families in need. It's 18+ entertainment with a purpose!

Laughs will be powered by our friends at Maine Community Bank, Aquaboggan Waterpark, Gridiron Restaurant Lewiston, Ossipee Garage Doors, LLC, Mindy's Munchies of Maine, University Credit Union, and the following station partners Frank FM, The Wolf, The Bone, The Wave, and WTSN News/Talk.

At the groundbreaking for Sweetser’s youth Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility, Governor Janet Mills shared the deeply personal story of her brother David, who lived with schizophrenia, and reflected on the difference timely intervention and support can make in a young person’s life.

Her message came from the heart: Families should not have to rely on an emergency room or send their child out of state to access intensive behavioral health care. When young people need a higher level of support, compassionate treatment should be available here in Maine, close to the people who love them.

We are deeply grateful to Governor Mills and the Maine Legislature for including $5.4 million in capital construction support in the state budget to help make this facility a reality. Their investment is helping Sweetser create 16 new treatment beds and fill a critical gap in Maine’s continuum of care for children and families.

Sweetser's Chief Growth Officer, Joanne Grant, as well as Affiliates Program Manager, Jan Dubois, recently attended the Maine Mental Health Counselors Association (MEMHCA) annual conference, connecting with clinicians from across the state and sharing opportunities to join Sweetser’s Affiliate Network. Joanne and Jan enjoyed meeting with professionals interested in learning more and building connections with potential future Sweetser affiliates!
