Today Go Green Kenilworth supported the Annual Kenilworth Scout Pancake Breakfast by making it a waste-free event by composting 210 galloons of food and compostable materials and recycling. A special thanks to Pancake breakfast leads, Katie and Randy White, Boy Scout and Girl Scout leaders, all the Kenilworth Scouts, and Go Green Kenilworth volunteers, Mara Saltzman, Katie Nahrwold, Trish Saltzman, Eleanor Prince, Ann Perce, Tod Saltzman, Ivy Sundell 🌎💚

Hope you can join the Area School Environmental Awareness Group THIS Monday for their 1st School Outdoor Classroom Garden Tour:

August 19, 2013

Wilmette District 39 volunteers will give a tour of the following outdoor classrooms. We will share ideas for plant selection and garden related activities in addition to discussions on connecting outdoor classrooms with curriculum and staff.

1. 9:00-9:25 a.m. Romona Elementary: 600 Romona Rd.
World Environments Learning Laboratory- six continent shaped beds, plantings related to specific ecosystems, raised and ground level beds for food production and curriculum connections, composting, rain garden.

2. 9:35-10:00 a.m. Highcrest Middle School: 569 Hunter Rd.
Inner courtyard established prairie and woodland gardens, composting, food production.

3. 10:15-10:40 a.m. McKenzie Elementary: 649 Prairie
Prairie gardens and butterfly attractors, raised beds, composting and a council ring.

4. 10:50-11:15 a.m. Central Elementary: 910 Central
Native Illinois prairie and butterfly gardens, three grade level vegetable beds and a sensory garden.

Please carpool or bike to each school. There is 10 minutes between each school visit to allow for travel time. Also, there will be additional time at Central School after the tour for discussion and questions.
