At this morning’s Northeastern Indiana CASA staff meeting, we welcomed Mary Kohrman, Bowen Health’s Director of Community Engagement.
She shared practical strategies for mindfulness, meditation, gratitude, and stress management to help prevent burnout and compassion fatigue while supporting children and families.

“I needed a purpose in retirement, and this is the best option to make a positive impact with my career and life experience,” Marci shared.

With years of experience supporting children and families, Marci now brings her knowledge and compassion to a new role advocating for children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Taking this oath marks the beginning of a meaningful commitment to listen, speak up, and help ensure a child’s needs are heard.

As Northeastern Indiana CASA celebrates 40 years of advocacy, volunteers like Marci continue to be the heart of our work. Thank you, Marci, for stepping forward to make a difference!

Some of our Northeastern Indiana CASA staff and volunteers spent today at the 30th Annual Indiana GAL/CASA Conference at the Grand Wayne Convention Center in Fort Wayne!

We heard from Ashley Rhodes-Courter, who shared her experience growing up in foster care, and Joshua Wayne, who spoke about the difference one caring adult can make in a young person’s life. Their messages spoke directly to why our volunteers show up for children.

We’re grateful for the chance to learn alongside advocates from across Indiana and bring fresh ideas back to the children and families we serve. 💙

We’re wrapping up another CASA volunteer training this week and are thrilled to welcome Mike Pool and Marci Burch to Northeastern Indiana CASA!

Congratulations to Julie Jensen-Kelley, one of the recipients of the 31st Annual Heart of Gold Award!

Julie has served on the Northeastern Indiana CASA Board of Directors with dedication and steady leadership, including many years as board president. She leads with professionalism, compassion and thoughtful guidance.
Her support extends far beyond the boardroom. Julie helps secure community donations for our annual fundraiser, lends a hand on event day and creates opportunities for CASA to share our mission. She has also used her professional expertise at Whitley County Community Corrections to strengthen our volunteer training.
Julie’s service reflects a true heart for our organization and our community. We are incredibly grateful for all she does. Congratulations, Julie, on this well-deserved honor!
