Description: This bench was painted with several layers to build the color values and sealed with outdoor clear sealant. The base colors were painted using spray paint and the rest is all hand painted using outdoor paint! Inspiration: This bench was inspired by my love for my family and our culture! The monarch butterfly holds sentimental significance in our family. In 2020, during COVID, we found a wounded monarch butterfly and took her in to help her recover. We did not think she would live more than a few days or weeks, but she was with us for 3 months! During that time, she’d spend her days on my mom’s shoulder accompanying her while she worked and did daily activities. While there were no words said, that butterfly felt like part of our family and gave us happiness during the pandemic.
As for the orchids, they are a representation of our culture. This orchid is Colombia’s natural flower which also happens to be my grandmother’s favorite! On the bottom of the bench, you’ll see these flowers with interconnected vines, this represents the bond within our family! I would not be the person I am without my family and this is my way of showcasing that love!
My hope for those who see this bench is to feel a sense of community, support, and love for those around you!
