Vedra A. Martin, 71, of Avilla, Indiana died Thursday, August 20, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by family.

She was born June 2, 1955, in Hazard, Kentucky to Pearl and Edna (Owens) Fuller.

She married John Martin on October 12, 1991. He survives in Avilla.

She enjoyed working in the food service industry. She had worked at Snyder Foods in Lisbon and Subway in Avilla. Along with her husband, she also owned and operated Quick-Way in Rome City.

She enjoyed yard work and gardening and especially cherished spending time with her family, with her grandchildren holding a special place in her heart.

Also surviving are two sons, Dan (Lisa) Kreider of Wolcottville and Chris (Lorraine) Kreider of New Paris; two step daughters, Tammy Elion of North Webster and Tina (Michael) Schmucker of Goshen; eight grandchildren, and three sisters, Edith Coney of Kendallville, Betty Brown of Rome City, and Linda (Dale) Caywood of Wolcottville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and eight siblings, Dora Mullins, Christine Maxwell, Leander Fuller, Raymond Fuller, Otis Fuller, Willie Fuller, Sammy Fuller, and Jeanette Lucas.

Celebration of life services will be Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Avilla Community Center, 305 West Albion Street, Avilla.

James Gale Forbes, 80, of Kendallville, Indiana died Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Parkview Randallia Hospital in Fort Wayne.

He was born January 16, 1946, in Sturgis, Michigan to Clarence Dale and Gladys Mae (Zanner) Forbes.

He married Jeanne Burniston on December 7, 1974, in Waterloo. She survives in Kendallville.

James was a proud Army veteran who believed in hard work and service. He worked at Dana and Eaton Corporation in Auburn and was a member of the UAW. He was a 50-year member of Kendallville American Legion Post 86 and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

James enjoyed woodworking, old cars, and a friendly game of euchre. He will be remembered for his dedication, his simple pleasures, and the many memories he shared with those who loved him.

Also surviving are two daughters, Anglia (Wayne) Miller of Milford and Lisa (Clint) Walker of Avilla; two sons, Christopher (Vickie) Forbes of Florida and James G. (Alba) Forbes, II of Fishers; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Eric James Forbes; and five siblings.

Visitation will be Monday, August 24, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.

Funeral services will also be on Monday, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Rich Secor officiating.

Burial will follow at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville. Honor guard services will be provided by active-duty members of the U.S. Army and the Veterans Honor Guard.

Preferred memorials are to Disabled American Veterans or the Noble County Humane Society.

Mary Evelyn "Eby" McKinney, 92, died August 19, 2026, in Auburn, IN, surrounded by love.

Mary was born February 11, 1934, in North Vernon, IN to Harold and Olive Hale. Known for her deep love of family, tireless proofreading skills, insatiable wonder, finding balancing a checkbook “fun” and a knack for cornering you at a potluck for a lively conversation–she lived a life full of purpose and laughter.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill McKinney. Mary and Bill were married in North Vernon, IN in 1956. They started married life on the USMC base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and eventually settled in Rome City IN, where they lived for over 45 years.

She leaves behind her beloved children – Michael W (Connie) McKinney, of Clearwater, FL and Leigh Ann (Jim) Savage of Fremont IN, who somehow managed to keep her "in line" and out of trouble (mostly) in her later years.

Mary's legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Michael (Karol) McKinney Jr of Paso Azul, Panama and Skyler Buffmyer of Milwaukee, WI. As adults, they continue to follow her example of working hard, loving fiercely, and always having fun along the way. Mary was especially excited to welcome her first great grandson in July 2026, Axton Eliot McKinney Trejos of Paso Azul, Panama.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Ellen VanCleve, and brother Robert Hale, with
whom she shared a lively crew of nieces that she loved very much and who will miss her immensely – Susie, Linda, Nanette, Sharon and Janie.

In the final chapter of her life, Mary found a vibrant community and second home at Astral of Auburn assisted living. She truly loved the staff who cared for her, viewing them not just as caregivers but as an extension of her own family. Her days at Astral were brightened when she met her best friend – Patti Hartman. Together they were two peas in a pod, also known as "double trouble”. They dove into every activity and outing with enthusiasm, bringing a wonderful touch of lighthearted mischief wherever they went.

Over the past year, Mary's circle of caregivers expanded to include Heartland Hospice, who gave her care, kindness, and compassion. The entire Heartland Hospice team quickly became like family to Mary.

Mary's life was a reminder that we can be richer in ways that matter. She was a daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, and she was really, really, really good at it.

Pamela McNary, 78, of Rome City, Indiana went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

She was born December 26, 1947, in Logansport, Indiana to Robert L. and Donna M. (Julian) Bernhardt.

On September 19, 1996, in Indianapolis, she married Steven M. McNary.

Mrs. McNary retired from The Salvation Army, where she served as an administrator. She had a compassionate heart and a genuine desire to help those who were hurting. During her years with The Salvation Army, working in drug and alcohol treatment, she became a “mother to many.” She offered encouragement, understanding, and love to people who needed someone to believe in them.

Pam’s faith in God was at the center of her life. She was a member of Five Corners Baptist Church in Wolcottville, where she found a church family and a place to worship and grow in her faith. Her relationship with the Lord shaped the way she loved and cared for others.

Pam also found great joy in the beauty of God’s creation. She loved flower gardening and took pride in watching her flowers bloom. She especially enjoyed hummingbirds and could spend time simply watching them visit her feeders. These quiet moments brought her happiness and were a beautiful reflection of her appreciation for the little blessings God placed around her.

Pam’s faith was more than something she talked about, it was something she lived. Her kindness, compassion, and willingness to care for others were a reflection of the love she had for God and for those around her. Her faith, her love, and the many lives she touched will be a lasting part of her legacy.

Surviving are her husband, Steve McNary of Rome City; three daughters, Cheryl (Mike) Muse of Vandalia, Ohio, Kimberly Kelly of Camby, Sandra (Daryl) Harden of Indianapolis; four sons, Brian (Christy Mattingly) Hickle of Greenwood, Donald McNary of Indianapolis, Steven McNary, II of Indianapolis, and Lamar McNary, Sr. of Indianapolis; 25 grandchildren, Chris (Mikaela) Bowman, Matt Bowman, Nick (Sarah) Muse, Ali (Todd) Reichard, Joshua Kelly, Amanda Kelly, Alec (Morgan Sears) Bryan, Payton (Jeremy) Knott, Kaylee (Brandon) Hargrove, Madison (Matt) Burns, Macenzie Hickle, Jake Hickle, Donald McNary, Sha’Nyla McNary, D’Marien McNary, Samara McNary, LaDon Jenison, Lamar McNary, Jr., Royal McNary, KingLamar McNary, Londynn McNary, Lamyla McNary, Lai’Onna McNary, Jaion McNary, and Layla McNary; six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Carson, Jaxson, Kasen, Hudson, and Emily; and four siblings, Karen (Joe Rose) Ward of Logansport, Bob (Bonnie) Bernhardt of Logansport, Dennis (Toni) Bernhardt of Cartersville, Georgia, and Rick (Brenda) Bernhardt of Logansport.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Five Corners Baptist Church, 2995 E 600 S, Wolcottville.

Pam’s celebration of life service will also be on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the church with Rev. Jim Snyder officiating.

Preferred memorials are to the family for expenses.

Joyce G. Straley, 86, a longtime beloved resident of Hudson, Indiana went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born June 27, 1940, in Steuben County to Charles and Ethel (Benjamin) McGrew.

On September 14, 1958, in Ashley she married Harold Straley, Jr. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2018.

She worked at Magnavox for most of her life, where she spent many years building a life and making memories along the way. Her faith was an important part of who she was, and she was a member of Independent Full Gospel Church in Ashley. She truly enjoyed going to church and the fellowship she found there.

Joyce knew how to enjoy the little things in life. She loved hopping on a golf cart for a ride, spending time camping, searching for treasures while garage sailing, and feeling the wind on her face while riding on the back of a motorcycle. She especially loved the holidays, when the house was filled with family, laughter, and togetherness.

More than anything, Joyce cherished her family and friends. She loved being surrounded by the people who meant the most to her and never took those moments together for granted. Whether it was a holiday gathering, a camping trip, a simple golf cart ride, or just sitting and visiting with the people she loved, those were the moments that made her happiest. Her warmth, her faith, and the love she shared with her family and friends will remain in their hearts and memories forever.

Surviving are two sons, Randy (Tami) Straley of Hudson and Rick (Annette) Straley of Auburn; nine grandchildren, Chris (Sky) Straley, Randi Surfus, Samantha (Justin) Peals, Missy (Jeremy) Straley, Jami (Shaun) Graber, Tyler (Candace) Straley, Austin (Abbey Burris) Straley, Shawn Montgomery, and Jason (Brenna Rogers) Montgomery; 17 great-grandchildren, KayLynn, Kaden, McKayla, MacKenzie, Saige, Kaylee, Cloey, Akaighia, Rylee, Corbin, Kansas, Tynsleigh, Adaryn, Chase, Dom, Nicole, and Nacobi; and a sister, Janice Peters of Auburn.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gene McGrew; and a grandson-in-law, Stan Surfus.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 17, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Independent Full Gospel Church, 1302 South Gonser Avenue, Ashley with Pastor Marty Brumfield and Pastor Jeff Straley officiating. Burial will be in Circle Cemetery, Hudson.

Honorary casketbearers will be Shawn Montgomery and Jason Montgomery. Active casketbearers will be Randy Straley, Rick Straley, Chris Straley, Tyler Straley, Austin Straley, and Corbin Slaght-Straley.

Calling is Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Preferred memorials are to the family for funeral expenses.
