Please bear with me and read to the end. There's a pretty exciting bit of information there for anyone with livestock.
Today started out rough.
Honestly, I hate stepping outside right now because Obsidian's cries are heartbreaking. She is beside herself over losing Flint and wants absolutely nothing to do with my attempts to comfort her.
I can't imagine what she's going through. My heart broke for both of them when I found him this morning.
If I had a bottle baby on hand, I'd be tempted to see if she'd take it. Unfortunately, that's one of the downsides of having such a small herd. My only hope is that maybe, just maybe, one of Catniss's twins decides Obsidian looks like a good milk bar and the two form some kind of bond.
Something tells me Catniss wouldn't be terribly upset by that arrangement.
After everything this morning, I needed a break to clear my head. Anyone who knows me knows how much I adore babies, and sudden losses like this are never easy.
So I headed out to Nikolaevsk to pick up some rabbits.
The drive gave me time to process everything and enjoy the absolutely stunning views of the inlet.
It was a long drive, but well worth it.
Then I got home and discovered Zelda out AGAIN.
That little goat is, at minimum, a four-times-a-day escape artist.
At this point she's about one fence jump away from winning the battle and being promoted to full-time yard goat, as long as she stays away from the road.
Honestly, she might end up coming with me to the farmers market. She's clearly all about exploring the world, meeting people, and grazing every square inch of available grass.
Now for the good news.
If you own livestock and are looking for processing this fall, listen up.
Whitney Holiday is taking butchering appointments starting September 1st and plans to continue through the winter.
Even better, she is offering free or discounted processing in exchange for protein donations to Eden's Edge!
You could have knocked me over with a feather when I heard that.
Whitney has been an incredible friend, advocate, teacher, and supporter of what we're doing. She loves helping with our processing projects and believes deeply in our mission of feeding local families.
We absolutely adore her.
If you're looking to fill your freezer, process livestock, or support a great cause at the same time, give Whitney a call.
