STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND TAKE TWO MINUTES TO DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. Copy and paste the following email and send it to CACGN now (Deadline June 5):

To the California Advisory Committee on Geographic Names (CACGN),
I strongly oppose these proposed regulations and ask that they be rejected.
The proposed “perceived association” standard is deeply subjective, vague, and open to abuse. A place name should not be subject to government action based on perception, assumptions, or disputed interpretations rather than clear facts and objective evidence.
This language would allow endless arbitrary challenges against communities, landmarks, and public places based on opinion rather than proof.
I am also concerned that CACGN appears to be changing the rules in the middle of active disputes. Changing standards during an ongoing public controversy creates the appearance of a predetermined outcome rather than a fair and neutral process.
If the concern is truly offensive or derogatory names, why are only certain protected groups emphasized while others may be treated differently? Rules should be clear, neutral, and applied equally to everyone.
Local communities deserve transparency, due process, and meaningful input—not vague standards and moving goalposts.
Please reject this draft policy.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
2. Forward this email to as many people as you can.
