Big things are happening at HDA.

We’re excited to officially launch our new YouTube channel along with the new look and branding for the Hobby Distillers Association.

To kick things off, Rick just released our very first video discussing the recent Fifth Circuit appeal and what it could mean for hobby distillers moving forward.

Now fair warning… we still have the training wheels on a bit 😄 This is our first video, so we’re working through the kinks and trying not to look too much like deer in the headlights.

But this community and this conversation are important to us, and we’re excited to finally start creating more video content for everyone.

Knowledge Ferments Creativity.

Distillation is more than just beverage alcohol — it also includes essential oils, botanical extraction, hydrosols, fragrances, and even water purification. It’s a craft rooted in science, creativity, history, and hands-on learning.

That’s one of the reasons the Hobby Distillers Association was founded: to help educate, promote safety, and advocate for laws that recognize hobby distillation similarly to homebrewing.

Why was the Hobby Distillers Association founded? 🥃

Because we believe hobby distilling is the natural progression of homebrewing and winemaking — hobbies that were federally legalized in 1978 and have flourished ever since.

For many of us, this interest is about more than spirits. It’s about craftsmanship, experimentation, tradition, and spending time with friends and family creating something unique — celebrating both the successes and the occasional failures along the way.

Distilling is also deeply connected to history and heritage for many people. From family traditions to regional culture, it has long been part of communities around the world.

HDA was founded to advocate for hobby distillers, promote education and responsible practices, and work toward modernizing laws so hobby distillers can have the same opportunities and protections that home beer and wine makers have enjoyed for decades.

We are hobbyists, educators, and enthusiasts who believe the craft deserves recognition, community, and a legal path forward.
