Great news! Schools are starting to reopen and the children are excited to be back in school! While there are still many challenges in Haiti, schools are opening their doors and welcoming children. Thank you for your faithful prayers. We give God all the glory and praise for answered prayer!

The children are singing, "We are happy to be back at school!"

Please be praying for Haiti and the children in our Starfish Kids' schools. School was unable to open in September due to demonstrations and political unrest as a result of skyrocketing fuel and food prices. To date school is scheduled to open on October 3. Please pray that God intervenes in a mighty way and that our schools are able to open, but that it is also safe to have children going to school! Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer.

Today, we're taking you on a journey into a Haitian classroom. As you can see, these children are dressed in their uniforms, ready to learn how to read and write.

Unlike the United States, Haiti does not have public schools for families to send their children to. This is partially because Haiti is among the poorest countries in the western hemisphere. Unfortunately, this means that most of the time parents have to choose between buying food or paying for their children's education. This is where Starfishkids comes into play.

There are 32 Starfish schools around Haiti with approximately 700 sponsored kids. Our desire for this program is to bring lasting impact for generations...one child at a time through a relationship with Jesus. We want these children to not only learn how to develop a relationship with Jesus inside the classroom- but to also carry that into their family's and neighbors’ lives as well.

These are the faces of children EXCITED to go to school! Thanks to your support, we have been able to support and sponsor over 600 children in Hati in their educational needs.

With opportunities for attending school on a regular basis, children are able to learn valuable life skills, problem-solving techniques, a chance at higher education, job opportunities, and more. But more importantly, these children are able to learn about Jesus and grow in the truth of his word.

Please be in prayer for Haiti. You may have seen in the news where a gasoline tanker truck exploded in downtown Cap Haitien two days ago. At our Starfish staff meeting via WhatsApp yesterday Pastor shared the devastating news. Over 60 have been reported killed, many others injured who have sought medical help but hospitals are unable to meet all the needs, and over 40 homes were burned and destroyed. Praise the Lord, although the area is close to one of our Starfish schools, the school did not sustain damage and no children were injured.

It was evident on the face of Pastor Miguelson that this latest incident was heartbreaking and another in a long line of difficult and seemingly overwhelming circumstances. While fuel remains both scarce and extremely costly, school has resumed.

We are thankful that our hope does not lie in human abilities but in the power of God Almighty and His Sovereignty. Please pray for your Starfish child, our Haitian staff and their families, and for our schools that God will be glorified in the midst of very troubling times.

The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart triumphs, and with my song I shall thank Him. Psalm 28:7

In our weekly staff "chat" today we learned that, sadly, schools are closed through Wednesday (hopeful to resume Thursday) due to scheduled demonstrations. While this is never the news we want to receive, we are thankful the well-being and safety of the children continues to be a priority.

For several weeks our pastor has been preaching on the life of Joseph. Last week he spoke about Joseph being taken from the prison (where he was being unjustly held) and brought before the King to interpret the King's dreams. Joseph was willing to interpret the dream and gave God the glory that he was able to do so. Our pastor pointed out that Joseph had every right to be angry, bitter, and unwilling BUT instead, while waiting on the Lord, Joseph had used his time wisely, growing in the Lord.

As we wait on the Lord to work through and resolve the difficulties currently underway in Haiti, let's use our time wisely by praying and seeking God's face, lifting up not just our Starfish Kids, but the entire country.

Psalm 27:14 - "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."
