Be part of something BIG this June.

On Saturday, June 20, AdkAction and the Town of Indian Lake are bringing together up to 150 volunteers to plant 5,500 native plants across an 8-acre site that will become critical pollinator habitat in the Adirondacks.

Join volunteers from across the region for a rewarding morning of hands-on work, community, and visible impact. There is nothing quite like looking across a landscape and knowing “we did that.”

Garden clubs, community organizations, and friend groups are encouraged to join as teams. To register a group, contact [email protected].

Please join us in welcoming Lindsay Eberhart to the AdkAction team as our newest Project Coordinator!

Lindsay brings a deep commitment to strengthening the relationship between people and nature in the Adirondacks. She is passionate about building networks of care across the region, co-founding the Northeastern Tool Library and serving on the boards of the Ausable Valley Grange and and Wheat Paste Radio in Keeseville.

Her background includes managing a statewide recycling campaign, work that sparked a lasting interest in materials management and circular systems. Outside of work, Lindsay continues exploring those ideas hands-on (including tanning sheep hides that would otherwise go to waste).

Lindsay holds a Bachelor of Science from SUNY ESF, and we’re excited to have her creativity, curiosity, and community-minded spirit on the AdkAction team.

Welcome, Lindsay!

Planning is underway for AdkAction’s first-ever Day of Action, happening in Tupper Lake on Saturday, August 8!

Last week, local residents and partners gathered for the first meeting of our Day of Action Project Planning Committee to help shape a day of hands-on community projects centered on real local priorities.

On the Day of Action, volunteers will head out across Tupper Lake to complete service projects throughout the community before coming back together for a picnic lunch and celebration at Flanders Park.

As AdkAction celebrates 15 years, we can’t think of a better way to mark the occasion than working side by side with the community, and we hope you’ll join us.

It’s not every day that someone halfway across the globe reaches out about a project unfolding in a small Adirondack town of fewer than 1,500 year-round residents; but that’s exactly what happened when Jacy, host of the The Bee’s Knees Podcast, discovered our Landfill Pollinator Habitat project.

In this episode, we share how a capped landfill in the Town of Indian Lake is being transformed into a thriving pollinator meadow filled with native plants, buzzing bees, and new opportunities for community connection. From early test plots to student involvement and volunteer efforts, this project is showing what’s possible when people come together around a shared vision.

If you’re curious why a former landfill might be the perfect place for a meadow (yes, really), or want to hear what we’re learning along the way, give it a listen:

And if you want to see it for yourself, sign up to join us on June 20th for a BIG volunteer planting day where we'll be putting in 5,500 native plants! https://www.adkaction.org/event/volunteer-event-indian-lake-planting-day/

Across the Adirondacks, small grocery stores play an essential role in keeping communities fed and connected. Tight margins, however, can make even basic upgrades difficult.

With support from Adirondack Community Foundation , AdkAction launched a Rural Grocery Microgrant pilot project to provide targeted equipment to four stores, based on what each grocer identified as their most urgent need:

Keeseville Grocery (Keeseville): cardboard compactor and cooler curtains
ADK Trading Post (Long Lake): commercial refrigerator
Otto’s Abode (Wanakena): shopping carts, display cases, refrigeration, and labeling equipment
Ticonderoga Natural Foods Co-op (Ticonderoga): upgraded produce displays

These small, practical investments are already making a difference by saving staff time, reducing waste, and improving access to fresh food.

As a pilot, this project is also a test. Can flexible, locally driven funding help sustain rural grocery stores? AdkAction will share what we learn to help inform future efforts across the Adirondacks and beyond.

This is what it looks like when a community of doers shows up! Last Saturday, 17 incredible AdkAction volunteers came together and potted up more than 2,100 native plants at Uihlein Greenhouse in Lake Placid.

These plants will soon find homes across the region, supporting pollinators, strengthening ecosystems, and bringing more native beauty to our landscapes, through our Native Plant Sale and Adirondack Pollinator Festival on June 6th in Lake Placid. And in case you haven't heard, we're offering trees and shrubs from Ausable Freshwater Center in the sale this year too!

Want to get your hands on some? Pre-orders are now open: www.adkaction.org/plantsale

To everyone who rolled up their sleeves and made this happen: thank you!

Huge thanks to our community business partner The Devlin for not only supporting AdkAction’s work, but for outfitting our staff and board team with these incredible co-branded vests!

We’ve been wearing them nonstop at events; they’re warm, easy to spot, and make us feel like a team.

Partnerships like this help power everything we do across the Adirondacks, and we’re so grateful to have The Devlin in our corner ❤️

AdkAction and Ausable Freshwater Center are teaming up to offer native trees, shrubs, and perennial flowers at this year’s Adirondack Pollinator Festival!

These native trees, shrubs, and flowers work together to create layered habitat - offering nectar, pollen, and shelter from early spring through fall. By planting a mix of woody and flowering species, you can support pollinators at every stage of their life cycle while adding lasting ecological value to your landscape.

Even better? Purchases support the work of both organizations: protecting clean water, restoring habitat, and strengthening our region.

All plants, trees, and shrubs will be in 1 gallon pot size. Place orders now for pickup at our Pollinator Festival in Lake Placid on Saturday June 6. We'll also have day-of sales, but some plants do sell out in advance! https://adkaction.square.site/

Winter might feel like it’s (mostly) behind us, but not for this group.

Today our Clean Water Safe Roads Network End-of-Season Workshop gathered a group of highway professionals, contractors, and partners in Lake Placid to take a close look at the storms and conditions of the recent winter and what they learned.

Across the region, more than 20 teams participated in the Network this season. Workshops like this one create space to compare notes, share real-world experience, and refine the strategies that keep people safe while reducing road salt use.

The work doesn’t stop when the snow melts. It shifts into review, learning, and improvement, and we’re grateful to everyone committed to protecting our water from salt pollution.

This Earth Day, we’re celebrating the people who show what AdkAction is all about: a community of doers.

Thank you to our incredible pot washing volunteers who rolled up their sleeves today to clean over 1,000 donated pots to be reused for this year’s Pollinator-Friendly Native Plant Sale. Because of you, we’re keeping plastic out of the landfill and giving these materials a second life, while ensuring our plants are grown in pesticide-free containers.

We can’t wait to see these pots filled with life by even more AdkAction volunteers at our upcoming Potting Day 🌱

In the Adirondacks, change is constant. Towns adapt. Communities respond. New ideas take root.

As we enter 2026, AdkAction is embracing that reality with a renewed Strategic Plan that will guide our work through 2028. In an open letter, Executive Director Sawyer Bailey reflects on endings, beginnings, and how we’re focusing our impact where it matters most right now.
