From the Field Friday brings us to SOREM in Chandigarh, India, where Mandy Childs connected with children alongside our global partners during a SkillCorps® trip.

Some of the most meaningful moments on a SkillCorps® journey happen through everyday interactions with the children and families served at our partner centers. These connections help our teams better understand each child’s strengths, needs, and unique personality while building relationships grounded in respect and learning. For both our SkillCorps® volunteers and global partners, these shared experiences strengthen collaboration, deepen cultural understanding, and remind us of the impact we can create when we work together toward a more inclusive world. 💙🌏

Team Tuesday đź’™

This week’s Team Tuesday features our Director of Programming, Mandy Childs, and proud SkillCorps® alum!

This photo was taken in July 2019 during a SkillCorps® journey to the Dominican Republic. The team included a diverse group of professionals, including an RBT, BCBAs, school psychologist, and teacher, all coming together to support our global partner and learn from one another.

What made this trip especially meaningful was that it was Mandy’s first time leading a SkillCorps® team—the beginning of her incredible journey and lasting impact with SkillCorps® and the Global Autism Project.

Today, Mandy shares her reflections and experience from her SkillCorps® experiences:

“When I went on my first SkillCorps trip I was 2 years out of college, just getting my feet under me in my career and was looking for something I could do both for myself and to better the world. The experience forced me to the edge of my comfort zone, and taught me more about myself than I could have ever imagined. I came back a more relaxed and confident professional, ready to take on new challenges that I could have only dreamed of in the past. Fast forward 2 years and I was leading a trip!”

This week, we’ll hear from SkillCorps® alumni and reminisce about some of our past SkillCorps® journeys!

Today’s Mission Monday features our SkillCorps® team in the Dominican Republic in July of 2019 at our global partner, Centro ACAP. Through collaboration, learning, and cultural exchange, our teams work alongside local professionals to help strengthen autism services and create lasting impact. During this trip our SkillCorps team observed sessions at the newly opened center, supported the staff and admin in assorted brainstorming and planning sessions and even conducted a staff training on Manding.

💭 If you could travel with SkillCorps®, where would you want to go? Let us know in the comments!
