As we celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month, it is important to spread awareness on the difficulties faced by those who are sexual and gender minorities.

According to the National Institutes of Health, people in LGBTQ+ communities face stressful situations and environments, stigma and discrimination, harassment, and traumatic experiences. Coping with these issues may be a contributing factor as to why people who identify as LGBTQ+ experience higher rates of substance misuse and substance use disorders than people who identify as heterosexual.
