We have a Winner! Congratulations to Carolyn White from Wheatridge Middle School in Gardner Kansas!
Carolyn White, a sixth grade science and math teacher at Wheatridge Middle School in Gardner, was presented the prestigious Wendell G. Mohling Foundation Scholarship Award for 2025-26, at her school on Wednesday, November 5, by Carol Bonham, President of the Foundation.
The $1,000 award is given annually to a Kansas science teacher to be used to increase his/her professional development. Carolyn plans to attend the National Science Teachers Conference in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, on November 12-15. In her application essay, she explained how attending this conference would not just impact her: “I plan to bring back what I learn to not only benefit my own students, but to share with colleagues and build a stronger science culture in our school.”
This award was also bestowed in 2017 to another USD 231 educator, Betsy Lawrence, who is now Carolyn’s assistant principal at Wheatridge Middle School.
The foundation was started 20 years ago by Carol Mohling in honor of her husband, Wendell, and it will continue to support Kansas science teachers for many more years to come.
