The Marine Forces Reserve was created by President Woodrow Wilson on this day in 1916, in conjunction with the creation of the Navy Reserve. Since then, the evolution of this force would expand from just 35 to today’s roughly 40,000 Marine Corps Reservists. Join us in wishing them a happy birthday today!

“Rounding out” is where the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) allows a school to certify courses for payment which are not a part of a beneficiary’s approved program of education to allow them to increase their training time or rate of pursuit. Rounding out is only allowed during the beneficiary’s final academic term and can be done only once per program.

By authorizing certification of these courses under the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), students can receive the maximum allowable monthly housing allowance (MHA) and non-Chapter 33 students are eligible for up to full-time benefit payments during this final term.

Effective August 1, 2026 all students using the Post-9/11 GI Bill benefit (Chapter 33) at an institution of higher learning (IHL) with a rate of pursuit greater than 50% can now be paid MHA at the full-time rate, without needing to take additional classes.

Come out and join us for the 25th Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony for September 11th (Patriot Day, Friday). Located at the 9/11 memorial at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central. The ceremony will start sharply at 8:15, so please arrive early.

A quarter of a century may have passed, but we will never forget the lives lost in the attacks that day, and the sacrifices of first responders and citizens who performed acts of heroism.

August 26 is Women’s Equality Day.

At the Military Women’s Memorial, every day is a celebration of the women who, through their service, opened doors and broke barriers: securing the right to vote, achieving equal benefits and pay, earning ranks and titles once denied, and proving women belong in every role—every position, every rank, every level—across both military and civilian life.

Every woman who has worn the uniform, no matter how long or in what capacity, has been a catalyst for change. On this day, as we commemorate the hard-won right to vote, we pay special tribute to the women of World War I. Their courage and service were the tipping point that led to women’s suffrage in the United States.

Over the next few days, join us as we celebrate these trailblazers and share how Her Story forever changed our history and our future.
