Ian is one of our Seniors at Kearns high and was set to run varsity for the cross country team. He was hit by a car on Saturday while riding bikes with his mom. He is still in critical condition and has a long road ahead of him!
His parents are by his side and missing work. His medical bills are adding up quickly of which not all will be covered by insurance.
Anything will help.

My nephew was hit by a car while riding his bicycle Saturday night 8/17. He was thrown 30 feet. He is now in ICU with a torn aortic valve, swelling in the brain, broken hip, compound fracture below the knee, broken thumb, and other injuries. Kearns Community!
I have had a few concerning emails and messages from our crossing guards tonight. Please, please slow down. Please watch for our crossing guards! Do not try to rush through the school crossings, so you don't have to wait for them to cross kids. Slow down in the school zones and never pass school busses that are picking up or dropping off kids!
We're all busy and at times feel rushed, but nothing is worth a tragic outcome because of not obeying the law.

This is the new wildlife overpass in Parleys Canyon. Here is a little peek at who's been trying it out 😊

Here's another look at some of the wildlife using the new Parley's Summit wildlife crossing overpass. Our cameras have been removed and Utah Department of Transportation will monitor crossing usage moving forward. Unified Police Department Kearns Precinct

We are excited to introduce two new Student Resource Officers (SRO) for this next school year! Officer Mahoskey (left) will be at Kearns High School and Officer Jin (right) will be at Kearns Junior High School. Officer Prettyman (not pictured) will continue at Thomas Jefferson Junior High.

Our SRO’s are focused on working closely with school administrators in an effort to create a safer environment for both students and staff. They also mentor and teach law enforcement related classes for the students.

Kearns!
We are getting several phone calls from people asking why they did not receive a ballot. Here are the questions we have been asked. Hopefully this will clear up any confusion.

#1. Why haven't I received a ballot? The Metro Township Council has only one primary. That is for District #3, which is the Lodestone area. If you do not live within these boundaries, you would not have received a ballot. If you do live within these boundaries and have not received your ballot, please call the SLCO Elections office at (385) 468-7400.

#2 Will I receive a ballot for the general election? Yes. Everyone in Kearns, that is registered to vote, will receive a ballot to vote in the general election, which is November 5th. Ballots will be mailed out beginning October.

#3 Why did I not receive a ballot so I can vote for the Salt Lake City Mayor, West Jordan Mayor, etc? Only residents of those cities will receive ballots to vote for their city mayor.

#4 Where can I find information about my representatives? SLCO has recently asked those who are on the ballot to provide links to their websites or campaign FB pages to assist you in getting to know the candidates. I will also post links as they become available that will have information on the candidates that will be on the ballot.

I hope this helps in clearing some confusion.

We were on our walk tonight & heading up the path through Lodestone Park, up to tje bike trail, on the north side & came across a Great Basin rattlesnake in the middle of the path. We didn't identify it until we got a little too close, as it didn't have a fully developed rattle. It was giving a good vibration of the tail though.
You may want to warn others in the area, as we see kids on this path quite a bit & I would hate to see some or their dog bit.

This is pretty neat! Here a picture taken from a drone of Cougar Lane. This is where the brand new HAWK crossing is going, that will hopefully make it safer for pedestrians to cross and smoother for traffic flow in the morning and afternoons.

Okay everyone, there is a concert tonight! This will be the first night we will be trying out the new signs and barricades. We will have our officers out patrolling the neighborhoods. This will be a test to see how effective these signs will be. Tomorrow, they will report back to me (Kelly) with the issues they saw and additional ideas they have.Then we will go from there.

Also, do not forget that you can call the non-emergency dispatch number at 801-743-7000 at anytime you need an officer.

For those of you that love concert nights as much as I do because of the parking issues everyone has been experiencing amongst some other serious issues that have been reported to me this past month.
I have ordered no event parking signs. Signs will be installed in your neighborhoods as well as I have ordered barricades for neighborhoods. Those that live in the neighborhoods will have control of who has access to park in your neighborhood during the concerts. These barricades will be dropped off before each concert and will be picked up the day after each concert by operations.
