Pre-Ride Inspection of the Heart
Scripture:
“For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” — Galatians 6:8 (NKJV)
Every experienced rider knows the importance of a pre-ride inspection. Before heading down the highway, we check our tires, brakes, lights, oil level, and controls. A few minutes spent inspecting the motorcycle can prevent breakdowns, accidents, and costly repairs down the road.
Our spiritual lives require the same kind of attention.
Paul reminds us in Galatians that what we sow today determines what we reap tomorrow. Just as neglecting maintenance on a motorcycle eventually leads to problems, neglecting our relationship with God allows spiritual issues to develop. Small compromises, unchecked attitudes, bitterness, pride, or selfish desires may seem insignificant at first, but over time they can lead us away from God’s best for our lives.
Before every ride, we should also perform a “heart inspection.”
* Are my thoughts honoring God?
* Are my words building others up?
* Am I spending time in prayer and God’s Word?
* Am I serving others or only serving myself?
* Is there any sin that needs to be confessed before I hit the road?
When we intentionally sow to the Spirit through prayer, worship, obedience, and serving others, we position ourselves to experience God’s peace, guidance, and eternal rewards. The harvest may not come immediately, but God promises it will come.
A well-maintained motorcycle is more dependable on the journey. Likewise, a heart that is regularly surrendered to Christ is better prepared for whatever roads lie ahead.
Prayer
Father, before I begin today’s journey, help me inspect my heart as carefully as I inspect my motorcycle. Reveal anything that would hinder my walk with You. Teach me to sow into the things of Your Spirit and not the desires of my flesh. Keep me safe on the road and faithful in my walk with You. May my life bring honor and glory to You in every mile I travel. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
