Our sincerest condolences go out to the Dever family as they navigate this difficult time. Casey served as a volunteer firefighter in Kearney in the 1970s & 80s, during a crucial time for the community as members worked to modernize fire protection with new equipment and the construction of a new fire station. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts in the days ahead.

The Kearney Firefighters Association is offering these awesome St. Patrick's shirts for sale to the public as a fundraiser for our organization. The main things our organization funds are the maintenance of the red trucks you see in the local parades, and sponsorship for charitable events our members participate in. These include local events as well as public safety related charities. Proceeds from these shirts will help with funding of these causes. As always, we appreciate your support!

A second station does not only benefit residents in close proximity to it. Additional staffing and resources benefit the whole district. Currently staff at the existing station answer calls anywhere in the district, which is a very large area. As overlapping calls (multiple incidents occurring simultaneously) increase, it becomes more challenging to meet the demands. Kearney can and does request aid from neighboring jurisdictions when needed, but all of our neighbors are getting busier and dealing with their own challenges as well. More local resources helps ensure prompt response to calls for service.

Let’s get to the details of where funds come from and where they are spent within the Kearney Fire & Rescue Protection District. Follow along over the next couple of days as we share more statistics.

In the last 13 years the Kearney Fire & Rescue District has had a substantial increase in call/response volume.

Personnel, vehicles, equipment, supplies, and more. It all adds up!

Friends, please see the attached for information about the upcoming ballot issue for Kearney Fire and Rescue. Question 1 is a no tax increase renewal of the existing bonds. Residents would continue to pay the same tax levy toward the debt service and the district would use the money to add facilities and add and replace aging equipment. Question 2 is a new half cent sales tax which would help fund operational expenses. Currently the district is funded by real and personal property taxes paid by residents of the district. The district is it's own entity and is not affiliated with nor funded by any city, state or federal government. You may not be aware the district covers a substantially larger area than the city of Kearney. If you are not sure if you are a district resident check your property tax records or voter registration. Every vote matters, please get out and vote. Thank you for your support.
