Why Dead Poets Society for a community movie night?

Because at its heart, this film is about finding your voice, noticing the people around you, and recognizing that our choices matter.

Those ideas are also at the heart of Green Dot.

Green Dot is The S.A.F.E. Center’s evidence-based violence prevention program. It asks us to pay attention to the moments when something doesn’t feel right and reminds us that we each have options for responding.

Sometimes that means being Direct and saying something. Sometimes it means creating a Distraction that changes the situation. And sometimes it means Delegating by finding someone else who can help.

You don’t have to be fearless. You don’t have to have the perfect words. And stepping in doesn’t always mean confrontation.

Dead Poets Society explores what happens when people feel pressure to stay quiet, follow expectations, or ignore what they know and feel. It also asks us to consider the influence we can have on one another and what can happen when someone chooses to speak, listen, notice, or act.

That’s where this movie and Green Dot meet.

Violence prevention doesn’t begin only after something terrible happens. It also happens in ordinary moments, when people choose what kind of friend, classmate, coworker, neighbor, or community member they want to be.

So on September 29, we’re inviting our community to come watch a great film, learn a little more about Green Dot, and maybe leave thinking differently about those everyday moments.

🎬 Dead Poets Society
📅 Tuesday, September 29
🕖 7:00 p.m.
📍 The World Theatre, Kearney
🎟️ FREE and open to everyone

This evening is made possible through funding from the Arthur Klinkacek Community Enrichment Fund in support of our Green Dot prevention program.

Free-will donations to our Drive Hope Home Campaign and donations of paper products for The S.A.F.E. Center will also be welcomed, but neither is required.

Bring a friend. Bring a student. Bring a coworker. Or bring someone who has never heard of Green Dot.

Carpe Diem. Sometimes the moment to make a difference is simply the one in front of us.

You don’t have to know what to call it to call us.

Was that abuse? Does this count as stalking? Is this relationship unhealthy? Is what happened serious enough to ask for help?

You don’t have to figure that out first.

At The S.A.F.E. Center, you can simply tell us what’s happening. We’ll listen, answer questions, talk through your options, and help you decide what comes next.

No labels required. No judgment. Just a place to start.

If something doesn’t feel right, you can talk to us.

Free. Confidential. Here when you need support.

Sexual assault doesn’t discriminate.
Not by age.
Not by gender.
Not by race.
Not by income.
Not by status.

It can happen to anyone.

So we show up for everyone.

At The S.A.F.E. Center, there is no “right” kind of survivor. No box you have to fit into to deserve help. If it happened to you, it matters. And you matter.

We provide free, confidential support—advocacy, counseling, medical and legal accompaniment, prevention education, and safe shelter—without judgment and without barriers.

No matter who you are, you are not alone.
