One stop. So many resources. All in one place!

Not sure where to turn for assistance? Looking for information, services, or opportunities for yourself or your family? This event is for YOU!

Tomorrow, United Way of the Kearney Area is bringing local organizations together for CommUNITY Fest, making it easier to connect with the people and resources available right here in our community.

From healthcare and employment opportunities to food assistance, youth programs, and community services, there will be plenty to explore. And you don't have to know exactly what you need before you walk through the door!

The S.A.F.E. Center will be there, too! Stop by our table, say hello, and learn more about the free, confidential services and prevention programs we offer.

We're grateful to United Way for bringing so many community partners together and making it easier for people to find the support they need.

When someone tells you they have been hurt, abused, assaulted, stalked, or controlled, they may have spent days, months, or even years deciding whether it was safe to say it out loud.

Will they believe me? Will they blame me? Will they ask why I stayed?

And then they choose to tell you.

What you say next matters.

Disclosure is often not immediate. Research cited by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center found that 1 in 4 women in one sexual assault study waited a year or longer before telling someone. And often, the first person someone tells isn't a professional. It's a friend, coworker, sibling, parent, teacher, or neighbor.

It could be you.

You don't need to investigate. You don't need proof. You don't need to decide what they should do next.

Start here:

“I believe you.”
“Thank you for telling me.”
“I’m sorry this happened.”
“How can I support you?”
“You get to decide what happens next.”

This is part of what we mean when we say let's go upstream.

A safer community isn't built only by responding after violence happens. We build it by recognizing harm, taking people seriously, respecting their choices, and knowing how to respond when someone trusts us with something difficult.

You don't have to know exactly what to do.

You can start by believing them.

Got weekend plans? Add one more stop to your list!

Our purple friendship pins are making their way around Kearney, and we want to see them EVERYWHERE!

A little throwback to the beaded safety pins we all loved in the '80s and '90s, but this time with a purpose.

Each pin is a reminder that safety belongs everywhere and that we all have a part in creating safer, healthier communities.

Board, staff, and volunteers showed up and showed out at the UNK Homecoming Parade!

This year’s theme was “Take the S.A.F.E. Bet”, and we used our time on the parade route to shine a spotlight on Green Dot and the role all of us can play in preventing violence.

We handed out Green Dot poker chips, coin purses, and ALL. THE. CANDY. And mostly, we just had a whole lot of fun being out in our community together.

A huge thank you to everyone who walked, decorated, hauled buckets, handed out goodies, waved, cheered, and represented The S.A.F.E. Center. We’re pretty lucky to have people who keep showing up for this work and for each other.

And that doesn’t mean you have to be ready to leave.

Safety planning is simply thinking through ways to increase safety based on your situation. That might mean talking through what’s happening at home, planning for an emergency, identifying people you can call, thinking about children or pets, or figuring out what options are available if things change.

You don’t have to have everything figured out. You don’t have to make a certain decision. And you don’t have to wait until there’s a crisis to reach out.

Every dot counts. Every dot matters.

Thank you to the staff and volunteers at BuffaloCounty HistoricalSociety for participating in Green Dot bystander intervention training!

Together, we explored how to recognize warning signs, overcome barriers to intervention, and take simple, safe actions to help prevent violence.

Green Dot is for everyone, and we're excited to see local organizations helping create a safer, more supportive community.

Purple isn’t the point. The conversation is.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and you’re going to see a lot of purple from us. We hope you notice it. But more than that, we hope it gets us talking.

About what healthy relationships actually look like.

About the behaviors we’ve learned to excuse or overlook.

About how we respond when something doesn’t feel right.

About what we’re teaching young people.

About how we make it easier for someone to reach support long before they are in crisis.

And about what it would look like to move further upstream, addressing the things that allow violence to take root instead of only responding after harm has happened.

That’s where we want to spend our time this October.

Asking better questions. Having real conversations. Building stronger connections. Creating more paths to safety. Doing more of the things that give people choices, support, knowledge, and possibility.

More life-giving things.

Because awareness matters. But what we do with it matters more.
