September is National Preparedness Month. NEMA encourages Nebraskans to build or update emergency kits with water, food, medications, first aid supplies, flashlights, chargers, pet supplies and important documents.

Take time to make a family emergency plan, too—including how you’ll communicate and where you’ll go if you need to evacuate.

Hot Meals USA is building a regional roster of dependable, community-minded individuals who can be deployed for short-term food service assignments across Nebraska. This is a rapid-response role that may involve high-intensity situations, fast activation timelines, and working in environments affected by disaster conditions. Team members prepare, cook, and serve meals for groups ranging from small teams to large units. Shifts vary by assignment and may include early mornings or evenings. This role is ideal for people who enjoy cooking, teamwork, and making a real difference in their community.

We are busy this morning doctoring up the beans for the Veterans meal later today!

Hot Meals USA has given tens of thousands of canned goods to food pantries across Nebraska this summer, including the Food Bank for the Heartland! We have also been busy feeding training groups daily since early July. Buffalo County jail’s kitchen is down, so they have been using our equipment at our building to make their meals, and we start cooking pork for the Veterans meal on Friday!

A big thanks to Berkley who donated $66 in cash! She was part of a fundraising effort with other students and chose to give her portion to Hot Meals USA because her uncle is a firefighter, and we had fed him when he was working a wildfire earlier this year. 😀 Thank you, Berkley!

The El D**a and Lady D**a are putting on a poker run as a fundraiser for Hot Meals USA! This should be a really fun event, and we are thankful for their support to keep our mission going! 🎉🎉
