Come join us at Oktoberfest put on by St. James at Kearney Catholic today until 2:30 pm for a delicious turkey dinner and more! Hot Meals USA prepared and cooked the turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, rolls, and cole slaw! There are also many amazing, delicious homemade desserts made by parishioners! They also have a bingo, bake sale, kids carnival, raffle, and more!

On behalf of our wonderful volunteers, Hot Meals USA accepted the Step Forward Award for the Disaster Volunteer category today from Governor Pillen at the ServeNebraska banquet in Lincoln! We are thankful for the opportunity to serve our fellow Nebraskans and want to make it clear that our volunteers are the reason why Hot Meals USA is successful! We especially want to thank the firefighters and others we feed while they do the hard work! We also want to thank the groups that provide us with many of our volunteers…Rotary and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as other churches and community groups! We would like to give a big shoutout to Sandra Hobson from the Nebraska Preparedness Partnership and Meghan Trevino of the West Central District Health Department for all that they do and for nominating us!

This past week, some of us were able to go visit the Food Bank of the Heartland in Omaha! We got a tour and talked with leaders of the organization to discuss how we can collaborate to help those facing food insecurity. We loved their volunteer t-shirts, too! Teams. Shirts. Puns. 😀🎉
