So excited to say that I recently submitted an article to the Head Start Sandbox! ❤️❤️

ICYMI: Parent Ambassador alum Cheyenne Hoffman was recently featured in the Region VII Head Start Association magazine, Sandbox! In her article, she highlights a partnership with Kearney Elks Lodge and Molina Healthcare that provided cold-weather supplies to Head Start classrooms across Nebraska.

We are so proud to see our Parent Ambassadors, past and present, using their voices to champion early childhood education! 💙

There’s a group of kids in foster care that almost no one talks about.

The biological children in foster homes.

The kids who didn’t choose foster care…
but opened their lives to it anyway.

They share their parents.
Their space.
Their routines.

Sometimes their toys.
Sometimes their bedrooms.
Sometimes the attention they used to have all to themselves.

They watch children come into their home carrying pain and trauma.
They watch their parents pour everything they have into helping those kids heal.

And they do something incredibly quiet and incredibly brave.

They make room.

They learn to be patient when things feel unfair.
They learn that some kids need more attention for a while.
They learn compassion in ways most children their age never have to.

But they also carry things people don’t always see.

Secondhand trauma.
Compassion fatigue.
The emotional weight of loving children who may leave.

They say goodbye to friends they made at their own dinner table.

And often… no one talks about their sacrifice.

But I see them.

The kids who help pack bags.
The kids who sit beside a foster sibling when they’re hurting.
The kids who open their hearts again and again, even knowing goodbye might come.

They are learning something powerful.

How to love people who are hurting.
How to share when it costs something.
How to show compassion in real life, not just in words.

And those are the kinds of lessons that shape the kind of adults they will become.

So tonight I just want to say this.

To the biological kids in foster homes…

You matter too.

Your kindness matters.
Your patience matters.
Your sacrifices do not go unseen.

You are part of the healing happening in those homes.

And that kind of love is a really beautiful thing.

Every child deserves to be educated on diversity, culture, inclusion and how to be equitable!

Diversity: race, gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical ability and socioeconomic status!

- We are not all the same, that is a fact. Even my sisters and I that are born of the same two parents and all female, have two of those things that are different in our families.

Inclusion: the action or state of being included.

- We all want to be included. Whether that’s in a group at school, a conversation or team at work, family events, etc. That’s basic human nature and essential to teach at a young age.

Equity: the quality of being fair and just.

- isn’t that what we have all been asking for?!

Whether you agree with all the diverse “categories” or not, do you really want your kids uneducated going into the world?!

I would be scared to have my children grow up blind to the aspects of the world that will see in adulthood.

Example: Your child grows up with blinders on to homosexuality. They grow up cisgendered and straight and that’s what makes them happy. Then they meet a group of people that identify differently at work. They have no idea how to be appropriate. They don’t know what jokes can be hurtful. They have no clue that these people existed. So they start talking and asking questions at work that are inappropriate. They get fired for making inappropriate jokes and “bullying” in a no fault state so there is nothing they can do to fight it.

As a parent… that lack of education is on you. They need to be semi aware, even if you teach them those things are against your beliefs and have no place in your home. That’s your choice.

The Trump administration's guidance attempting to end DEI programs is no longer in effect and can't be enforced against anyone, anywhere nationwide.

Every student has a right to an inclusive education, free from censorship. This ruling affirms that all students have a right to a full and honest education that reflects the diversity of our communities and our full history.

Ricky Martin… what a legend, LOVED that surprise!
Things I loved:
1. Representing Hispanic culture for those that are underrepresented!
2. No fear to be himself through all of the criticism.
3. Bringing out the flags and showing unity between us and all the cultures that feel under attack in this country right now, while still blessing America as well.
4. Purely standing up for what you believe in!

Bad Bunny's halftime performance contained many nods to his Puerto Rican heritage and had everything from a wedding to appearances by Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. In this house… we are watching the Super Bowl. Why? Because we always do. We like football. We like the commercials, even if they are bad. And we love to see why kind of show performers can put on for one of the biggest stages all year.

Do I care who the performer is each year? No. Because no matter what, they give it there all and it’s always cool to see what they can do.

This year, the show is controversial because of what is going on in this country NOT because it’s Bad Bunny. There wasn’t this much push back when it was Shakira when she sang in Spanish, and had Bad Bunny guest star.

You arent mad about citizenship. He is one.
You arent mad about criminals. He isn’t one.
You are mad that he is different and doesn’t look cookie cutter. You are mad he doesn’t sing 100% in English so you can understand.

Every other country in the world teaches multiple languages at a young age. Every country has people of all colors and origins. America… get over yourself.
