🦜 Meet Dukey! 💕

Dukey’s exact age is a bit of a mystery, but one thing we do know is that he’s been part of our Parrots in Paradise 'ohana for quite a few years now!

Dukey came to us from a wonderful couple on Oʻahu who eventually relocated to Las Vegas. They made the thoughtful decision to find a new home for several of their parrots, and we were fortunate enough to welcome Dukey and his feathered companions into our sanctuary. A special mahalo to Lisa Waki, who still follows along with our adventures on Facebook! 🌺

These days, Dukey has a little love story of his own. He's quite smitten with Peebles, the Goffin’s cockatoo who lives in the neighboring aviary. There's just one little complication… Peebles already has a boyfriend, Ausi! 😂

Ah, love in the aviary! Sometimes being neighbors is as close as romance gets. 💕

Meet Lola — A Little Lady with a Lot of History! 🦜

Lola is a Goffin’s Cockatoo, estimated to be in her late 40s, with a story that spans many years and a few chapters along the way.

Wild-caught long ago, Lola eventually found herself in the care of a wonderful woman who loved her for many years. Wanting the very best for Lola and hoping she could enjoy an even better life, she made the difficult decision to place her with a trusted friend. When circumstances eventually changed, Lola needed another place to call home, and that’s how she found her way to Parrots in Paradise.

Today, Lola is part of our mixed colony, where she has a place among the many feathered personalities who make this sanctuary home.

At PIP, every bird arrives with a history. Some stories we know in detail, others have missing chapters. But what matters most is the chapter we're writing now — one filled with safety, companionship, care, and a place to belong.

Lola, we're happy you're here! 🌺

At Parrots in Paradise, Chris takes food prep and delivery to a whole new level! 🥭🔪

Watch this man work his magic with a papaya. His chopping skills are worthy of a five-star kitchen, and once the fruit is perfectly prepared, it’s off to the well-equipped golf cart for delivery! From one flock to the next, Chris makes his rounds with fresh meals, fresh water, and a level of room service most resorts can only dream about.

Every beak gets served, every bowl gets filled, and every delivery comes with a little extra aloha. No reservations, no room service charge, and absolutely no tipping required. Just happy parrots and one very dedicated chef on wheels!

🦜 COONEY — WHATCHA DOING? WHATCHA DOING?

Some voices carry memories. And some parrots carry those voices for a lifetime.

Meet Cooney, a beautiful Galah Cockatoo at Parrots in Paradise, whose eyesight has faded with cataracts, but whose curiosity and personality are as lively as ever.

Cooney has a favorite question.

Whatcha doing? Whatcha doing? Whatcha doing?

Sometimes it's a soft little whisper, almost as though he's sharing a secret. Other times, it's a raspy, insistent inquiry that simply demands an answer!

You can't help but wonder about the life Cooney lived before arriving at the sanctuary. How many times did someone lovingly ask him that very question? Was it part of a morning routine? A conversation across the breakfast table? A familiar voice checking in on a beloved feathered companion?

And how many wonderful conversations must have followed?

Today, because of his cataracts, Cooney enjoys the safety of his own enclosure, where other birds can't take advantage of his limited vision.

But he still has plenty to say.

And perhaps that's the sweetest part of Cooney's story. Though his eyes may no longer see the world clearly, his little voice still carries an echo of someone who once loved talking to him.

So when you visit Cooney and hear that familiar little question, don't just smile and walk away.

Answer him.

Because somewhere in that endless chorus of Whatcha doing? might be the memory of a very special friendship.

Around here, “residents” come with feathers, fur, hooves, wings, and VERY strong opinions. With so many mouths to feed and so many lives to care for, our monthly operating costs are adding up to about $60,000 a year. 😳

Meet Ohia,❤️

She is the matriarch of Parrots in Paradise — a Scarlet Macaw who has lived a long, remarkable life and carries her years with unmistakable dignity. She is observant, powerful, independent… and definitely not interested in taking anyone’s advice. 😂

Over the years, there have even been attempts to find her a feathered companion. It didn’t quite go according to plan. Ohia made her feelings VERY clear. She seemed to prefer her own company.

And honestly? That’s Ohia.

She has chosen her people, her space, and her way of life. She doesn’t need to be softened, changed, cuddled, or paired. She simply needs what every elder deserves: respect, safety, and a place to call home. 🌺

She is one of the sanctuary’s great originals — a living piece of its history and a reminder that every parrot has a story, a personality, and a voice of its own.

ʻŌhiʻa doesn’t need to be cuddled or paired or changed. She simply needs what every elder deserves: respect, safety, and a place to call home.🌺

The sheep and parrots at PIP have a long-standing understanding… but apparently, the parrots still get a little jealous. 😂

A photographer was focused on Mama and Baby Sheep when the flock noticed the camera had abandoned them.
