When he was around eight months old his family noticed that Jacob was a little behind, but he was still learning to crawl, talk and play, just a little slower than a normal one year old. As time went on Jacob lost the ability to talk, crawl or even to hold toys in his hands. Jacob has a regressive, terminal neurological disorder that has left him unable to do anything for himself. He cannot walk o
r talk, in fact Jacob has a hard time even moving his head, arm and legs. He communicates with his eyes and by smiling. A feeding tube offers his only nutrition. As you can imagine with as many physical inabilities as he has, the cost to his family is tremendous. He just recently had a major operation, and because of his frailties he is frequently hospitalized, and more operations are expected. In addition to these enormous medical costs, Jacob has ongoing monthly expenditures associated with his feeding tube, prescriptions and care. He also is under the care of many different doctors adding to his medical expenses. There are also many expensive bills for the upkeep of his wheelchair. Jacob is a wonderful blessing to his family and their lives happily revolve around his care, but its impossible for them to do it on their own, even though they would like to. Their burdens can be lightened as we all pull together to help make Jacob's quality of life the best it can be. Despite his difficulties Jacob is still the happiest little boy we know and he brings joy to everyone who sees his smile!
