Happy International Women in Engineering Day! Today, we’re proud to celebrate the women in engineering whose expertise, dedication, and problem-solving help create stronger, smarter, and more resilient communities.

In honor of this day, we’re especially excited to highlight women engineers on our Cycling For Water team—Ivy Harvey, Sarah Babcock, April Ballweg, and Kritika Thapa—who are all bringing their time, talent, and energy to the EA Cycling For Water’s Race Across the East team.

Cycling For Water is a nonprofit organization that raises funds for Water For People through ultra-cycling races. Every two years, EA employees support the effort by participating as both riders and crew members.

We’re grateful for their leadership, teamwork, and commitment to making a difference—both in engineering and beyond.

We are back and ready for another ultra-distance cycling race! This year for the first time we are taking on Race Across the East (RAE). RAE is a 630 miles race held in the eastern USA starting in Blanchester, Ohio and ending in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

This year we have a team of 4 riders with a crew of 10 including 2 media crew members.

The Race Across the West 2024 was a remarkable event for the Cycling for Water team, led by solo rider Walt Migdal and supported by a seven-member crew. The team worked tirelessly over 3 days to ensure Walt's safety. Walt covered 861 miles in 91 hours, facing extreme heat, exhaustion, and even requiring IV fluids at one point. His perseverance earned him 2nd place in his category and the distinct honor of the Lanterne Rouge, awarded which is awarded to the last solo finisher, as published in the RAAM newsletter.

Walt and the EA/Cycling For Water crew did it! We are all beyond proud and blown away by Walt’s achievement of finishing Race Across the West (RAW) as a solo rider.

With a crew of 7, Walt finished RAW on the morning of June 15th at 7:04 am MST. He received 2nd place in his race category and biked a total of 861 miles in 91 hours with a very limited amount of rest. He is proud to have raised over a significant amount of money for Water For People and to achieve his own personal goal of finishing RAW as a solo rider.

There were some ups and downs but overall an amazing experience for both Walt and crew. So let’s all congratulate Walt and his crew on achieving this amazing accomplishment.
