More Than a Race: It's a Movement for Our Youth!
We recently heard a comment about how our event has "changed" from its grassroots days. And you know what? It made us pause. Because the truth is, our core mission and grassroots spirit haven't changed one bit! We're simply more organized so we can better serve our purpose.
So, what IS our event about? It's about empowering the next generation, inspiring them, and challenging them to be their best selves.
From Keiki Dreams to Channel Crossings
It all started with an 8-year-old, a 10-year-old, and an 11-year-old with a dream to cross the channel. Fast forward to today, and we're seeing those dreams multiply! Many of our youth in the Molokai community who began with the Keiki race are now crossing the channel as young adults. This year, we're thrilled to have our largest youth participation ever!
We've even seen the first group of boys from 2003-2004, who are now family men and world champions in their fields, continue to give back and mentor the next generation. That's the legacy we're building.
Perpetuating Culture, Inspiring Futures
Our event, no matter its name over the years, has always been dedicated to perpetuating our future generations, inspiring, motivating, and challenging our youth to reach their full potential.
But it's more than that. We are also deeply committed to protecting and preserving our Molokai culture, honoring our host culture, and giving back to our community. These are not just words; they are the foundation of everything we do.
Adults on the Sidelines: Cheering Our Youth On!
For all the adults participating or watching, thinking our event is solely about one craft: think again! Our grassroots philosophy has always been firmly rooted in supporting and inspiring our youth. We, the adults, are here on the sidelines, cheering them on as they embark on these endeavors and conquer their fears. We're here to help inspire and motivate them every step of the way.
Our sole mission is to support and celebrate our youth so they can be the best they can be, whether on land or at sea!
