UPDATE 6/20/26‼: Mahalo Molokai! The Grow Aloha Plant Giveaway is pau, all the 'ōhi'a have found new homes!!!

Aloha Molokai!

The June Grow Aloha Plant Giveaway will be this Saturday, June 20, from 8–11 AM at the Molokai Land Trust. This month’s featured plant giveaway is ‘Ōhi‘a ❤️.

'Ōhi'a (Metrosideros plymorpha) is endemic to the six largest islands of Hawaii. It is also the most common native tree, comprising 80% of Hawaii's native forests.

Today, 'ōhi'a faces a serious threat - Rapid 'Ōhi'a Death. ROD is a fungal disease that kills ʻōhiʻa trees by blocking their ability to transport water. The disease has been detected on Hawai'i Island, Maui, O'ahu, and Kaua'i and has killed hundreds of thousands of ʻōhiʻa trees across Hawaiʻi.

ROD can spread through contaminated tools, infected plant material, soil, and wounds on trees. There is currently no cure for infected trees, making prevention critical. Help protect Hawaiʻi’s forests by cleaning tools and gear, avoiding injury to ʻōhiʻa trees, and never transporting ʻōhiʻa wood, leaves, or soil between islands.

Supply is limited. First come, first served. 1 per person.
