🔥🚒
Your Kaufman VFD ESD #1 firefighters had a busy afternoon responding to a smoke investigation on Roy Road.
Upon arrival, crews discovered a large grass fire off Highway 243 that had escaped from a controlled brush pile burn. The fire quickly spread through the surrounding grass and burned 32.6 acres before firefighters were able to bring it under control and extinguish it.
🚒 Kaufman VFD ESD #1 responded with:
Tactical Tender 2
Tactical Tender 3
Brush 1
Brush 3
Tanker 1
Due to the size and spread of the fire, mutual aid was requested from Scurry VFD, which responded with two brush trucks and an engine for additional water supply.
We also want to thank the City of Kaufman Fire Department, which assisted with an engine to provide water supply until our Tanker 1 arrived.
As a volunteer fire department, our firefighters respond from their homes, jobs, and other locations when calls come in. This can sometimes mean additional response time as our volunteers make their way to the station and respond with apparatus. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding.
⚠️ IMPORTANT BURNING SAFETY REMINDER ⚠️
Even though the burn ban has been lifted, conditions can still allow a controlled burn to quickly become an uncontrolled grass fire.
If you plan to burn:
Never leave your fire unattended.
Stay with your fire until it is completely extinguished.
Keep water, hoses, rakes, shovels, and other fire suppression tools readily available.
Pay close attention to wind conditions.
Make sure your fire is completely out before leaving the area.
A controlled burn can become an uncontrolled wildfire in just minutes!
👏 A BIG THANK YOU to Scurry VFD and the City of Kaufman Fire Department for their assistance and teamwork. Working together makes a difference in protecting lives and property throughout our community.

🚒
Your Kaufman VFD ESD #1 firefighters have had a busy 24 hours responding to a variety of calls throughout our area.
Crews responded to four controlled burns. Remember, the burn ban has been lifted, but you still need to obtain the required burn permit from the County Fire Marshal’s Office and call your controlled burn in to dispatch. This helps prevent unnecessary fire department responses to reported smoke or fires.
Firefighters also responded to two motor vehicle accidents and a medical emergency, where we assisted EMS with safely moving a patient from their home to the ambulance.
Crews were also dispatched to a structure and vehicle fire involving a barn/shop. The structure contained four large dump trucks, a pickup, several pieces of construction equipment, and other shop equipment.
Because of the extremely heavy fuel load, mutual aid was quickly requested for additional personnel and water supply. Terrell VFD, Scurry VFD, College Mound VFD, Elmo VFD, CareFlite EMS, and Kaufman VFD ESD #1 worked together under a Unified Command to bring the fire under control.
Due to the large volume of fuel and hydraulic oil involved, firefighters utilized a foam attack to help suppress the fire.
Thanks to the outstanding teamwork of everyone involved, the fire was brought under control with no injuries reported.
The County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
🔥 Great job by all agencies involved. Mutual aid and teamwork make the difference when it counts.

🔥 Busy Day for Your Kaufman VFD ESD #1 Firefighters 🔥
It was another busy day for your Kaufman VFD ESD #1 firefighters, handling several calls throughout the day.
🔥 15-Acre Grass & Heavy Timber Fire
Our firefighters responded on mutual aid with Scurry VFD to a grass and heavy timber fire that burned approximately 15 acres. The Texas A&M Forest Service responded with a dozer to help build firebreaks through the trees and heavy vegetation. Also assisting was a U.S. Forest Service strike team. Crews worked together to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading further.
🐄 Cow Rescue
Earlier in the day, firefighters responded when a cow fell partially into a well. One of our volunteers, Kevin Watd, brought his boom truck to assist with the rescue. Working together, crews safely removed the cow from the well unharmed.
🚨 Major Accident
At approximately 7:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a major motor vehicle accident. Roadways were damp following approximately 3/10 of an inch of rain received in the area.
🔥 Burn Ban Violation
The day finished with firefighters responding to another burn ban violation.
⚠️ REMINDER: THE BURN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT.
A small amount of rain does not mean the fire danger is gone. Once the dead grass and vegetation dry back out, they can burn again very quickly.
Please continue to follow the burn ban and help us prevent unnecessary fires and emergency responses.

Busy Afternoon for Kaufman VFD ESD #1
🔥 BUSY AFTERNOON FOR YOUR KAUFMAN VFD ESD #1 FIREFIGHTERS 🔥
Your Kaufman VFD ESD #1 firefighters had a very busy afternoon battling two separate grass and brush fires.
🔥 First Fire – Southwest Drive
Firefighters responded to a grass and brush fire that burned approximately 5 acres. Four Kaufman VFD units worked to contain and extinguish the fire. Scurry VFD responded with two additional units for mutual aid. The Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
🔥 Second Fire – East Highway 175 & Meadowbrook
As firefighters were getting our apparatus back in service from the first fire, another grass fire was reported near East Hwy 175 and Meadowbrook.
Four Kaufman VFD units responded, with mutual aid requested from Scurry VFD with two units and Kemp VFD with two units.
This fire burned approximately 7–8 acres and was extremely difficult to control because of the amount of extremely dry, dead vegetation. The fire burned around approximately three homes, but thanks to the quick actions and aggressive fire attack by firefighters, no structures were damaged.
The Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office is also investigating this fire.
We want to thank Scurry VFD and Kemp VFD for their quick response and mutual aid. Working together, we were able to protect homes and keep these fires from causing even greater damage.
🔥 Great work by all of our firefighters and mutual-aid partners!
🚒 First in. Last out. Always ready.
🏠 Protecting our communities—one call at a time.
Please be extremely careful with any outdoor burning. With dry vegetation and current conditions, a small fire can quickly become a major threat.

Kaufman VFD ESD #1 Firefighters Have Been Busy
Your Kaufman VFD ESD #1 firefighters have been busy with several calls over the past two days.
Last night, crews responded to a burn ban violation.
Today, firefighters were called to a rekindle from yesterday’s grass fire. After drying out, old hay and brush reignited. Tactical Tender 3, Brush 3, and Tanker 1 responded and worked the area for approximately 1½ hours, making sure the fire was completely extinguished.
We were then called to another grass fire that originated from a burn barrel.
🔥 PLEASE DO NOT BURN ANYTHING! 🔥

Kaufman County is still under a MANDATORY BURN BAN. With the extremely dry conditions, even a small fire can quickly get out of control or rekindle hours later.
Please help us protect our community, homes, property, and firefighters. Do not burn until the burn ban has been lifted.
Stay safe, and thank you for helping keep Kaufman County safe! 🚒🇺🇸

🔥 KAUFMAN VFD ESD 1 GRASS FIRE RESPONSE 🔥
At approximately 2:52 PM, Kaufman VFD ESD 1 firefighters were dispatched to a reported grass fire. Upon arrival, crews found one shop structure with fire impingement and three additional structures threatened by the advancing grass fire.
Tactical Tender 2 and Tactical Tender 3, along with Tanker 1, responded to provide water, as there were no fire hydrants available in the area.
Kemp VFD was immediately requested for mutual aid and responded with three brush trucks and an engine, providing additional manpower and water supply.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire after approximately 8½ acres had burned. One home sustained minor damage to the vinyl underpinning. Thankfully, there were no injuries.
Several civilians also assisted firefighters by using brooms and garden hoses to help protect property. Also Kevin Ward assisted with his skid steer and was a great asset. THANKS
Conditions were extremely challenging, with temperatures around 103°F and 43% humidity.
The County Fire Marshal was requested to investigate the fire and address burning during a county burn ban.
A big thank-you to all of our Kaufman VFD ESD 1 and Kemp VFD firefighters, as well as the civilians who assisted. Your quick response and teamwork helped prevent further damage to homes and structures.
🔥 Burn bans are in place for a reason. Please do not burn! 🔥
