Bluefields Education Project

Bluefields Education Project Bluefields Education Project is dedicated to providing underprivileged children in Nicaragua the opportunity for education.

We are currently supporting a private school in Bluefields. This year, the school has moved into a new building financed by BEP and built by local residents. The school was formed in 2008, and currently instructs grades K-4.

Hey everyone!

We spent the day observing classes and distributing food packs for the children at the school. Today we learned about Snell’s law and deciphering the sentiment in language.

Hey, everyone! It's been a while since we've updated the page, but there are still things going on. COVID has prevented us from visiting our friends in Nicaragua, but we have still been able to be a blessing from afar. This past summer, we were able to provide food packs for 300 of the Verbo School student's families each month for three months. Nicaragua was pretty much shut down all summer long so there weren't many opportunities for income. The additional resources were welcome. Check out our friends!

It has been a while since we’ve posted. With the civil unrest that began about a month after our trip last March, it has been a bit more hazardous to travel so we’ve delayed our 2019 visit until things settled down a bit.

I am visiting solo this time and will be checking in on previously funded projects, hand delivering our last donation to the school for this year, and scoping out projects for potential funding in the near future. The first picture included is a covered walkway from the road to the school building. We funded this project from donations not allocated to school operations. This allows the children to arrive in class dry and ready to study during the rainy season. Prior to this, many showed up to class drenched and distracted. If you are interested in a one-time/project donation, please contact us for details!

As you may know, all monthly donations from non-board members goes directly to school operations to provide for children that are unable to afford school without help. The only fees we pay are to transfer funds from the US to Nicaragua and the small processing fee PayPal charges to handle any donations through them. Everything else goes directly to the school. We keep our overhead low to provide the most we can for these wonderful children.

The second photo is of the kindergarten graduation that just took place last week. They are starting their “summer” break over December and January and will return for the new school year in February 2020.

Have a blessed day!
John

Hey, everyone. We are back in Bluefields!

We’ve been partnering with a team from Canada that regularly works with Verbo school and we’re exploring the possibilities of working together moving forward to bring consistency to the support the school and children receive.

As always, we appreciate all the love and support you provide to these children through this organization.

This covering over the stairs is one of the projects we have funded to help keep the kids dry during the torrential rainy season. It was completed late last year.

Well, Saturday is the day! We leave 9:14am for a week of bliss with our Nica family. BEP is assisting this time with sidewalk construction and a roof over some outdoor stairs to keep the frequent rain off the students and provide a safer passageway on the campus. Thank you again to all those that support the efforts to educate these children. We couldn't do it without you!

Time for an update! We are preparing to make another trip to Bluefields from July 22-July 29. This year, we are preparing to work on some sidewalks and stairwell roofing. I don't think we'll have time to finish while we are there, but plenty of people will be there to continue the work, even if we aren't. That's the best part of what we are doing in Bluefields. The work doesn't depend on us for labor! There are many people in the city that understand the value of education. They just don't have the resources to accomplish many of the projects that make education attainable. We are proud of all of our friends in Bluefields and look forward to a long partnership.

The travel wasn't as smooth as normal yesterday, but we successfully made it to Bluefields in one piece and with all of our luggage. We are blessed.

I was able to share a word with Verbo Church in Bluefields this morning. The congregation even got some of my lame attempts at humor :)

Thanks again to Pastor Ed for allowing us the time to share.

We will be meeting with the education dept and lawyer tomorrow at 4PM. Looking forward to getting the skinny on the local regulations straight from the source.

Well, we'll be in Bluefields in less than a week now. I think all of the preparations have been made so now it is just a few days of work, lots of turkey and then a couple of plane rides! :)

We have been blessed by Pastor Ed Jaentschke and his wife Ligia of Verbo Church and School in Bluefields offering us room and board while we are in the city. They are always a blessing and a wealth of knowledge since they have been running a private school in the city for over 20 years.

We will be meeting with the local overseer of education in Bluefields on this trip as well as the lawyer working with the school during the accreditation process to gain more insight into how we can continue to help the underprivileged children around the school with their educational needs.

Keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks!
